Allice Hoffman Marriage Read— The Hoffman summer home at McKenzie Bridge was the scene of the wedding Saturday noon of Allice Hoffman, daughter of Mrs. Charles S. Hoffman, and Lieutenant Don O. Tower, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Doane of Portland. The candle-light ceremony was performed before the fireplace dec orated with flowers and ferns. Rev. W. O. Livingstone officiated. The bride wore a costume suit trimmed with fox fur and carried a white prayer book with a shower cf white orchids and stephancsis. Miss Cathrin Hoffman, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore n silk afternoon dress with a cor sage of white orchids. Robert Cherny of Eugene acted as best man. Mrs. Marvin Kamholz sang. A buffet luncheon and reception followed the wedding ceremony. Lieutenant and Mrs. Tower left im mediately after the reception for Salt Lake City, Utah, where he is stationed with the United States Army Air Corps. Both the bride and groom grad uated from the University of Ore- Dinner for Boards, Instructors Held— A dinner for the facilities of the Washington and Lincoln grade schools and [the Vernonia high school and the grade and high school board members was held Wednesday evening at the Legion hall as a “get-together” for tnose people. The dinner was served by ladies of */te American Legion Auxiliary. Juvenile Grange Enjoys Program— The Vernonia Juvenile Grange held its regular meeting on Sat urday night, with most of the members present. A very interest ing lecturer’s program was enjoyed by all. The Subordinate Grange served refreshments to both juve niles and subordinates. Mrs. Anderson Is Hostess for Club— Mrs. C. L. Anderson was hostess at her home in Riverview Thursday for the Friendship Club. A delicious luncheon was served at noon. Mem —T bers present were: Mesdames A. L. Bassett, Sidney Malmsten, Phillip Mill'is, E. Woods, J. B. Wilkerson, Wilbur Graves, Alice Crawford, Harvey Crume, Herbert Condit and Louis Boeck. Guests for the day were Mrs. Ebon Johns and children and Mrs. Edmund Ruediger. Business Women Elect Officers— Officers for the coming year were elected at the first fall meet ing of the Vernonia Business Wo men held Tuesday night at the high school. Mrs. Marvin Kamholz was named president; Mrs. Leatha Tous- ley, vice-president; Mrs. Ralph Val- piani, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Elmore Knight, recording secretary and Mrs. Oscar Steele, treasurer. Installation of the newly elected officers will be held on October 14 at the home of Mrs. Steele. Come on now—Confess! You really need a new house dress. They were enroute to Spa Lion Caves. 4-H to Meet Miss Kathleen McCrae of Hills boro will put on a demonstration to the large group of 4-H club girls September 26 at the home of Mrs. Preston Bonnell, 4-H leader. All mothers are invited to attend this demonstration. Mts. Mae Tailman and Mrs. Elsie Peterson were honored by a birthday dinner, served them at the home of Mrs. Arthur Fluke, Sr. Mrs. Earl Fisher helped to serve the dinner. Maxine Cameron was home from Portland over the week-end. She is attending Northwestern Business College. Whiteson People Visit Mr. and Mrs. H. Tolson of White- son were Sunday visitors with their son, George Tolson, September 13. Mrs. Jessie Tillman of Buxton and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Frost f Harrisburg were visitors of Mrs. Tillman’s niece, Mrs. Berleigh Tail man, on Friday. Miss Helen Blanchard spent the week-end in Portland with Miss Helen Stone. Mrs. Myrtle Ramsey and Mrs. Thelma Harkson were visitors in Forest Grove last Wednesday. Dinner Party Given Mrs. Joe Reveal entertained last Thursday with a dinner for the following ladies: Mrs. E. C. Kubler, Mrs. Ruth Pinkley, Mrs. John Bino, Mrs. Mae Tallman, Mrs. Emma Goss of Cornelius, and the hostess, Mrs. Reveal. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Dalhman of Cochran moved to Elsie last week where Mr. Dalhman has employ ment. Mr. ond Mrs. J. M. Pederson and Freddie of Eugene were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kubler Monday night.
