Improvement in Oregon’s traffic
accident situation for the first four
months of 1941 compared to the
same period in 1940 is shown by
the traffic death rate, showing the
number of persons killed in rela
tion to the exposure to accidents,
according to word from the secre
tary of state’s office recently.
The death rate so far this year
is 10.6 persons killed per one hun
dred million miles of travel, com
pared to a rate of 12 for the cor
responding period last year.
The decrease in the death rate
indicates the improvement in driv-
ing and walking practices of Ore-
gon citizens because in spite of a
strong increase in the use of motor
vehicles, the fatality ratio dropped,
it was said. Motor vehicle use in
creased nearly 17 percent during
the first four months of this year.
