FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1941 LET’S BE SOCIABLE Club Discusses New Program— At the regular meeting of the IL. iness Women held Tuesday night in .he high school, plans for the pm,Tam for the remainder of the year were made and discussed. It w decided to drop the idea of doing leather work as a club pro ject, owing to the disinterest of a ntnlber of members for the activity. For the next meeting, Tuesday, March 11, Mrs. Marshall Rockwell will speak to the group on topics having to do with public health. Questions and a round-table dis cussion will follow the informal talk. Circle to Meet March 4— The Deborrh Circle meets next Ti sd&y afternoon, March 4, at the hone of Mrs. Richard Fletcher on th O. A. hill. Members are request- < ' to have the final reports on tickets. Surprise Family Reunion Held Sunday— Miss Mildred Weed and O. G Weed arranged a family reunion Sunday as a surpnse for Mrs. Weed on the occasion of her birthday. Elza Weed and Nancy of St. Helens. Also present were Mrs. Emma Weed and Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Garner and Larry of Vernonia. W. M. S. Regular Meeting Slated— The Evangelical W. M. S. will hold its regular March meeting at the church on next Wednesday, March 5. A delightful program has been a. ranged which will be follow ed by a social hour. Pollyanna Circle Meets at Church— DeVaneys Have Guests KEASEY—(Special to The Eagle) —Visitors at the J. O. DeVaney home over the week-end were Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Westernberg, Jessee DeVaney, Elza Pettijohn, Arline Rames, and two of their friends, all from Portland, and Mr. and Mrs. Herb Counts. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Prince spent the week-end at the W. J. Lindsley home. The Basket Club met at the home of Mrs. Dave Marshall Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown of St. Helens spent Sunday at the H. A. DeWitt home. iMr. and Mrs. Glen McDonald visited at the Frank Morris home On Wednesday, February 19, the Pollyanna Circle met in the-Evan gelical church where the group quilted all day. At noon a pot-luck dinner was served after which the business meeting was held. It was agreed to meet one day each week for working on the quilt. Follow ing the business meeting a shower honoring Viola Carrick was given. A device that helps locate lost radium has been invented by Frank Hartman of Philadelphia. Rays giv en off by radium affect the delicate mechanism and cause it to sound a gong when brought within 500 feet of the radium. The apparatus clangs louder as it comes closer to the precious metal. HIGH-LOW over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krieger and son, Billie, went to Portland Tues day. Ivan Reed is working for Doc Jones at Springfield. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hilhiberry visited at the Clarence Reed home Sunday. Mrs. Vernon Lindsley was host ess recently for a bridal shower for Mrs. W. R. Prince and a stork shower for Mrs. Sam Smith; the affair was held at the home of Mrs. W. J. Lindsley. Many lovely gifts were received. The January weights and meas- urea enforcement work of the state department of agriculture saw 1,- 245 small scale, and weight, check- ed, mostly at retail stores. Of this total, six were condemned.
