Club Meets Here—
l'he School Masters’ club of Col-
ui. )ia county met Monday night at
the American Legion hall. The at-
t< dance was unusually large with
4 J men teachers of the county pres
ent. Members of the Legion Auxil
iary prepared and served the din
ner.
Preceding the speaker for the
evening, the high school girls’ sex
tette sang two selections, and sev
eral readings from members of the
kindergarten class in the grade
school were heard. As highlight of
the meeting, Dr. Giersbach, new
president of Pacific Universiity, ad
dressed the group on the topic,
“Whither Education?”. Dr. Giers
bach was well received; his excell
ent speech was highly praised.
During the business meeting,
there followed a discussion of the
proposed legislation affecting edu
cation, and of the county basket-
b. 1 tournament which is to be held
February 27 to March 1. Drawing
for the tournament was held dur

Plays Reviewed
At Study Club—
Mrs. Paul Gordon reviewed Noel
Coward’s group of plays “Curtain
Calls” at the meeting of the Ver
nonia Study Club held Thursday,
F bruary 13, at the home of Mrs.
Richard Fletcher. As an introduc
tion Mrs. Gordon stated that the
playwright showed great inventive
genius by “using a plot instead of
devising one”. Coward was describ
ed as “wicked, wistful', languid,
biting and fantastic when and as
he liked.”
During the business meeting, the
Civic Committee reported on the
amount of funds in the Community
Chest and a report concerning
Danny Sabilino, a former Vernonia
grade school boy who was stricken
with infantile paralysis several
years ago, was given. The club
members voted to send Danny a
reading rack and to send him cards
and letters often.
At the next meeting of the Study
Club to be held at the home of

piani will speak on “A Pattern for
