yOUK TOWN’S TOPICS Suffers Flu---- J. W. Nichols recovered from an attack of flu and was able to at tend to office duties Monday for the first time since early last week. Mrs. Oscar Kaphammer and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bond spent New Year’s Eve in Portland. The occa sion was also celebrated for the wedding anniversary of the Dials. Leaves for Oregon---- Go to Manning— Mr. and Mrs. Harry Culbertson and sons, Douglas, Edgar and Harry, Jr., spent iChristmas day in Manning at the home of Mrs. Cul bertson’s mother, Mrs. L. L. Craw ford. Ill with Flu— Bob Tipton suffered an attack of flu, becoming ill last Thursday. He had not returned to work the first of this week. Albert Childs has been taking Mr. Tipton’s place in the market during that time. See Wedding— Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Kullander spent last Saturday evening at Gladstone where they attended the wedding of a niece, Miss Carol Bristlin. Father Die»— The father of Mrs. E. A. Preston passed way this week according to word received here. Mrs. Preston left 10 days agp for Kansas City to be at her ill father’s side. Ruth Holaday Here— Miss Ruth Holaday visited the Os car George family last week. Miss Holaday who teaches near Gresham came from Longview Saturday and remained in Vernonia until Wed nesday when she, accompanied by her niece, Shirley Cole, who had been visiting the Walter Kents, re turned to Longview. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Laramore and children returned home Mon day following a week’s trip through eastern Oregon, Washington and Idaho. They visited in Hermiston, Coulee Dam. Spokane, Lewiston, Idaho, and Laramore’s home town, In Portland— Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Culbertson, Washtucna. Washington. They were aacbmpanied home by Uhel Holliday, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Smith and Mr. and Mrs. J. McCrorey celebiated nephew of Mrs. Laramore. Boys chor us, girls chorus, pageant and oper etta along with music furnished by Reehers CCC boys assisted at the piano by Miss Ruth Byers was great ly appreciated by all. Miss Helen Stone, who teaches at Knappa, and Mrs. Blanchard cf Wauna were among the many who attended the program Friday night. Miss Helen Blanchard, intermediate teacher here, returned to Wauna with them after the program was over. Mrs. Theo Senn and daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Call aghan, and children, Barbara and Mary, twin daughters, and son, Don ald, all of Portland were last Sun day visitors of Mrs. Senn’s nephew, John Bino, and family. They were returning home from a few days outing at Seaside. A baby daughter named Judith Darien arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andrews in Los Angeles December 12. Mrs. Andrews will be remembered here as Miss Margaret Elliott. Mrs. Laura Gilmore went to Se attle Monday where she will spend the Christmas holidays with her sons and families: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gilmore and Mr. and Mrs. Claude G more and Claudette and Shirley Mae. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and daugh ter, Louise, and Orville Chase of Newberg attended the program at the gym Friday night. After the pregram they were guests of Mr. Wilbur Regeater and daughter, Miss Taza Regester. Mr. and Mrs. L. II. Vanzetten and Mrs. Vanzetten’s brother, J. M. Van Rossen, of Portland were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kubler Tuesday. ' Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Castle and daughter spent Tuesday evening with Mrs. Castle’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Busch of Watts. Margaret Beals of McMinnville was an overnight guest of M; e Tail man Saturday night. Mrs. Vivian Merz of Portland is eunployed at the Gilmore hotel for a week while Mrs. Gilmore is in Seattle. Miss Etta Mae Wells, County Health nurse of Hillsboro was a visitor at our school last Thursday. Lawrence Bino spent hist week end in Portland at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Price. All camps are closed for the hol idays and only the local freight trains are running until next week. Mr. end Mrs. David Castle spent Sunday at the home of Mrs. Castle’s sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank E’li Lt, a. Witch Hazel. They alsi visited Mr-. Castle’s mothei, Mrs. Ida Cutright.
