FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 1940 VERNONIA EAGLE, VERNONIA, OREGON Pythian Sisters Hear Report— LET’S BE SOCIABLE Study Club to Sponsor Drive— Mrs. Wallace McCrae was hostess at the October 24 ih meeting of me Vernonia Study Club. After .he dessert luncheon each member responded to roll call by giving an interesting fact about a former president. Mrs. Richard Fletcher was welccmed into the club as a new member. The drive begins November 11 and continues until November 21. Mrs. Harry Sandon provided the program for the aftenoon by re- viewing the book, “The American Presidency,” by Harold J. Laski. Mr. Laski, of Roumanian descent, was educated in England and holds a professorship at the London School of Economics. In his book the author gives a clear view of the inner as well as the outer machines of White House politics. Because of his sympathy, under standing and impartiality Laski treats the office of president with much less criticism than does the average American citizen. The re view was particularly interesting be cause of its timeliness what with our national election so close at hand.
