TABLOID SHEET FILM SCRIBE
Tracking Down
TRUE TO LIFE—
One of the greatest sources of
irritation in the average news
paperman’s rather hectic life is
the fact that the movies so often
picture them as a group of dipso-
maniaas. Profiting by the exper-
ience of other s studios, Director
Nick Grinde went to great lengths
before the production of “Scandal
Sheet,” Columbia’s thrilling drama
of tabloid journalism at the Joy
Theatre Tuesday, to ensure an ac
curate portrait of a modern news
paper.
Three weeks before Grinde call
ed his cast together, he disappeared
from the lot. Every day he visited
some editorial or press room, where
he watched and swapped yarns with
the reporters. At night, he went
out on assignments with the “leg”
men and covered important stories.
’OWELL AND LOY CO-STAR
'N NEW “THIN MAN” HIT—
William Powell and Myrna Loy,
ong hailed as the screen’s most
>opular “Mr. and Mrs.” team, come
to the Joy Theatre starting Thurs-
lay in “Another Thin Man,” third
if the scintillating detective series
vhich has swept the nation with
a shower of laughs.
Like its famous predecessors,
‘The Thin Man” and “After the
Thin Man” the story of “Another
Thin Man” combines a puzzling
and intriguing murder mystery with
the happy, gay and sometimes hec
tic married life of Nick and Nora
Charles, the detective pair whom
Powell and Miss Loy created so
ielightfully in the first picture of
the series.
Highlighted by the gay and amus
ing events in a home where every
one does as he pleases, Universal’s
comedy drama, “The Family Next
Door,” opens Saturday at the Joy
Theatre.
Hugh Herbert is seen as the
whimsical father who has reason to
doubt whether he is really the
“head of the house.” Ruth Don
nelly, popular comedienne, has the
role of the mother who spends hei
time trying to marry off her pretty
daughter, Joy Hodges. Eddie Quih
lan portrays the elder son who has PLEASANT HILL XMAS

Juanita Quigley appears as the SEHORN HONORED
