Book at Study Club—
The Vernonia Study Club held
its regular meeting last Thursday,
December 7, at Mrs. William
Heath’s home in Riverview. After
the dessert luncheon, each member
responded to roll call by giving a
current event. Mrs. Phil Taylor was
c lected to membership during the
(business session.
Mrs. Alice Estey reviewed the
book “The Patriot” by Pearl Buck.
This novel relates the story of a
Chinese boy who went to Japan
where he marries a Japanese girl.
At the outbreak of war between
Lis native country and his wife’s
native country, the couple separate,
the husband setting out for China
to fight in the war against Japan.
The next meeting of the club
will be a Christmas party to be held
Thursiiy, December 21, at Mrs. Ed
Bollinger’s. Mrs. Paul Gordon will
present the program on a review of
Indian Art.

The Betty Brite Circle met at
Mrs. Paul Gordon’s home Tues­
day, December 12; Mrs. Ross Dun­

cooked food sale Friday, Decem­

Virginia Vaughan was initiated
into Rainbow for Girls Monday
night. Her sister, Jean, acted as
Worthy Advisor. Following the cere­
mony, plans were made for a
Christmas party for the mothers of
the Rainbow girls to be given
next Monday night at the Masonic
Temple. The same evening the Ma­
jority Degree will be conferred
upon Dorothy Webb.

the 0-A Bridge Club at her home
in Riverview, Tuesday, Decembei

Jim Hanna was able to return
to his job the past week. He has
been on the sick list.
Roy Greenslit went to Portland
and brought his car back. He was
having it repaired in Portland.

were Vernonia shoppers Saturday
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Chet Taylor spent
Sunday evening at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Bob Woods.

shoppers last week.

unable to attend school due to an

Pearl and son, Jackie, at the home

Goble.

of Chapman Sunday.

is going to stay at the Atkins
home and go to Vernonia high
school this year. She is a senior.

in-law were dinner guests at the

Portland.
