I LET’S BE SOCIABLE Mrs. Estey Reviews Book at Study Club— The Vernonia Study Club held its regular meeting last Thursday, December 7, at Mrs. William Heath’s home in Riverview. After the dessert luncheon, each member responded to roll call by giving a current event. Mrs. Phil Taylor was c lected to membership during the (business session. Mrs. Alice Estey reviewed the book “The Patriot” by Pearl Buck. This novel relates the story of a Chinese boy who went to Japan where he marries a Japanese girl. At the outbreak of war between Lis native country and his wife’s native country, the couple separate, the husband setting out for China to fight in the war against Japan. The next meeting of the club will be a Christmas party to be held Thursiiy, December 21, at Mrs. Ed Bollinger’s. Mrs. Paul Gordon will present the program on a review of Indian Art. c. s. Miss DeBogart is going to stay at the Atkins home and go to Vernonia high school this year. She is a senior. Bud Atkins took Hubert Chase back to Vancouver, Washington Monday. Mrs. Atkins' sister and brother- in-law were dinner guests at the Atkins’ home Sunday. They are from Portland. Mrs. Harry Sandon, Mrs. Sandon s mother, Mrs. Ward, and Mrs. Frank Lane were dinner guests and played bridge the rest of the afternoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Lewis.
