Official newspaper of Vernonia, Oregon O r E G]0( P UI LI S HE 1 ■ —————— amount of money on hand at that time for the staging of the community Christmas tree on the night of December 22, Friday evening. That figure represents the united efforts of committeemen named by various civic, church, fraternal and school organizations in the city when those committeemen “bend” their efforts in one direction to attain a united goal. The figure, as yet, is small for the amount of money which is deemed ne cessary for a successful staging of the Christ mas tree with its accompanying treats for children and at the same time leave sufficient funds for the community chest. The commun ity chest, each year, is given the remaining funds after the community tree program has been held. The cause is one which works in keeping with the Yuletide spirit of cheer and good will to others. It is deserving of the effort expended in making it a success. NO DUPLICATION IN THE NAME “VERNONIA”— VERNONIA HAS one distinction that is not duplicated by any other city or towh in the whole of the United States, its name. An article recently released by the Writer’s Project of the WPA informs that Vernonia, unlike many other towns of the state, stands alone in name. Not even another postal sta tion bears the same designation. In this one respect alone the city can be said to stand out for many cities bear names duplicated by other cities or towns, thus often making it somewhat difficult to dis tinguish between them. der yours immediately.
