Kenny Baker was concert master of his junior high school band, and Schlepperman a concert violinist. Mark Warnow, "We, tlie People" maestro, is one of few child prodigies to mature into a practical musician. Noted now for his versatility in handling different types of music, he was once celebrated for being the youngest maestro ever to con duct for opera in New York. Jude Freeland, above, has deep sympathy for anyone who experi ences stage fright. Jude, who is heard on the “Johnny Presents" programs with the “Three Har monics," was so frightened when she made her first public appear ance that she obtained permission to sing behind a curtain. Mrs. Anna Ohler is staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Schmidlin of Beaver Creek, who I Mary Small, above, the popular vocalist who is featured on George Jessel’s “Jamboree," is one artist that radio can really claim as its own. Mary made her air debut at the age of ten and has appeared In prominent radio shows ever since, in addition to headlining stage shows in theatres throughout the country. Marjorie Hannon, who plays the role of Ruth Ann Dexter in "Bachelor's Children," had to sacrifice her own name to get ii .o radio. She was given the title role of “Sally of the Talkies" on condition that she would take the name of Sally Madison off as v. ell as on the air. six different languages: Arabian, Hindu, Turkish, Spanish, French and a spattering of English, The majority were Arabs, but some just looked like Arabs. Preston Foster and Lynn Bari head the cast of the 20th Century- Fox story. Young, even when he appeared in Hal Roach’s “Topper Takes 7k Trip,” coming to the Joy Theatre on Wednesday, didn’t use a speck of make-up, nor did he use a wig or “frontpiece” for his hair. In addition, he provided his own clothes. MIDGET PLAYERS ALMOST BLOWN AWAY BY CYCLONE— Ten midgets appearing with John ny Weissmuller and Maureen O’ Sullivan in “Tarzan Finds a Son!” playing at the Joy Theatre Sunday and Monday, may be small' but they’re not dumb. When the first high wind hit China Flats while the 'company was on location, it blew i midgets in every direction. They had to grab tree trunks, automobiles i and anything statonary to keep them from being blown out of a day’s work. An hour later, when a sixty-foot high “twister” hit the location scattering chairs, parallels, cameras and lamps, the midgets dove for individual little cyclone cellars that they had dug. COUNTERPART OF BONAPARTE— Claude Rains’ characterization of Napoleon III in the Warner Bros, picture “Juarez,” which will show at the Joy Theatre Thursday and Friday, was patterned, Face, fig ure and costume, from an exact likeness of his notorious prototype. This guide is a costly on a, for it is valued in the tens’ of thousands. It is a genuine Winterhalter por trait of the French emperor, done in Paris shortly after 1860. EXPENSIVE PROPS— Furs valued at more than $50,- C00 were used as wraps in trad ing post scenes of Columbia’s “North of the Yukon,” which stars Charles Starrett at the Joy Thea tre. The furs were sun-dried pelts, rented from a warehouse where i they were just received from the Canadian wilds. They will have more value than five times their 'present value when converted into i wraps for milady. ¡JAMES ELLISON SCORES— I One of the most popular of the screen’s younger actors, James Elli son has the leading role in “Al most a Gentleman,” new dramatic film offering in which a dog plays a prominent part. Ellison is cast as an embittered young lawyer who broods over the break-up of his marriage, caused by the snobbishness of his ex- I wife’s family, and who plans a1 suitable revenge. His romance with1 Helen Wood and the remarkable j work of a new dog star, Ace, lead! to the exciting conclusion and make i for an absorbing picture. POPULAR HERE— As far as the various studio de- 1 partments are concerned, Roland Young is the most popular male star in Hollywood. His popularity is due to the fact that he is the only film actor who never causes the wardrobe, makeup and hair dressing departments any work. ^^5 WHAT?
