LICENSED Mr. Bennett is a young man of energy, capable, well liked and one who will give the county his best in performisg the of fice duties in a conscientious and business-like manner. Eighty four Diesel-operated trucks are listed in Oregon this year, the first times that special registration has been required for such vehicles. That which holds the possibilities of great est danger for Oregon taxpay ers, in our opinion, is for a state bank bill. In the last two months we have heard and read most of the ar guments for and against this measure. Proponents argue that it would save money for the state through reduced interest costs. Opponents declare that taxpayers wocld be called upon constantly to pay through tax ation for losses incurred by the bank. Analysts have declared the Oregon bill more shot full of dangerous clauses than the or- iginal North Dakota bill under which the North Dakota bank seemingly was a failure anl op erates now only under a much different measure. Opponents seemingly have the better of it though and mainly because of one prife argument. The bank set-up, as provided un der the measure to be voted on Nov. 3, would allow and possibly encourage “political” loans ran ging from $100 to $1.000. Pol itical appointees would be in charge. This newspaper would not want to deposit its own money in an institution so controlled and does not believe its tax mon ey should be so deposited. • * BENNETT SHOULD BE ELECTED WITH EASE Z first nine month of the year can Legion, at St. Helens plans reached $16,281.95, state depart an all day celebration on Arm ment records reveal. istice day, starting with a pa rade at 9 a. m. and closing with ST. Bennett, St. Helens, Oregon (Clatskanie Chief) David O. Bennett should be elected district attorney for Co lumbia county with ease on Nov. 3 as the people want a man in that office who will attend to the business of the people and the county. They are thoroughly tired of not being able to find the dis trict attorney in his office and are demanding a change. It is probably hard to find a man who has had any business to transact thru that office, any one who has served on a jury or anyone who has known how the office has been conducted FUEL I PAGE THREE 847 Third Street PAPER HANGING Painting Kalsomining FOREST GROVE, OREGON Enlist a Bank as Your Ally in Protecting your funds Banking By Mail Accounts Wel- corned.
