A. Miller of Gales Creek were bruis ed in and around the face when Mr. Miller’s sedan was wrecked near Poynter’s station on the Rock creek road Saturday night. A flat tire threw the car into the ditch and up against a stump. The machine was a total wreck. All the patients are reported as doing well. Aldrich reported that the Railway Express agency at Portland had informed him that the cost of free delivery and pick-up within the city limits would be too great for the amount of traffic involved, but that they would consider a pro position at less cost to serve the business district only. On account of the removal of J. C. Lindley, chairman of the roads and highways committee, President Ford appointed a new committee consisting of J. E. Kerr, chairman, H. E. McGraw and Ray D. Fisher. J. E. Kerr, speaking for the committee, urged that there be unity of sentiment in the com munity backing up the chamber of commerce in its efforts to se cure the short cut to the sea. J. N. Miller, county commis sioner, told of the efforts of the county court to be fair to all parts of the county in apportion ing the funds available for road work, and stated that they would welcome unselfish suggestions as to the disposal of tha $60,000 which reverts to the general mar ket road fund. CHARLES HAMBLY NATAL—(Special.)—Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hambly are the proud parents of a son born Friday, June 19. Both mother and son are doing fine. The young man weighed six pounds. He has not yet been named. City Park Improved For Summer Season The city park is being put in readiness for the summer season. Picnic tables with benches and a camp stove have been added to the equipment out of doors, and plumbing has been installed in the Campfire cabin. L. C. Boeck donated the labor for putting in the camp stove, and Judd Greenman had some men mow the grass, all without expense to the city. A great deal has been done towards cleaning up the area, but more remains to be done, and the park board, according to C. F. Hieber. plans to arrange fcr a clean-up day in which the men of the city will spend a half day clearing out the rest of the brush and rank grass and the ladies will serve lunch. The American Legion will put in a log dam to take the place of the one removed after the sea son last year. T B. MILLS ENTERS REAL ESTATE LINE County Commissioner T. B. Mills has entered the real estate business, specializing in improved and logged-off farm lands. Mr. Mills has received several inquiries for places which he has listed, and he anticipates con siderable interest in Columbia county farm property. RESIGNS POSITION HERE Enoch Dumas, book keeper in the J. C. Penney store here since it was opened a year ago, has resigned in order to continue his studies at college.
