resources, construction of new
roads, promotion of tourist traf­
fic, adustment of railroad rates,
and other projects that will bring
money into the c<»inty. H. E.
McGraw, J. E. Kerr and Albert
Childs were appointed Wednes­
day by vice-president Carl Dav­
idson as a committee to meet in
St. Helens this evening with com­
mittees from the other cities in
Columbia county and propose a
definite plan,

coln county chamber of com-
merce, and recently in charge of
a similar organization in Tilla-
mook county, was in Vernonia
Wednesday in the interest of the
project. With him were Kenneth
Miller, agricultural agent of the

Harlan, editor of ’Oregon Busin­
ess,
Mr. Workman addressed a
group meeting of the chamber of
commerce at the Terminal cafe
Wednesday noon. He urged the
pooling' of efforts of smaller or­
ganizations throughout the county
in order to secure adequate pub-
licity and accomplish results oth-
erwise unattainable.
Columbia county offers a field
for land settlement work sucb
as no other county offers in the
state of Oregon, he believes. The
problem is to let the outside
world know what is here.
Two families located by the
State chamber of commerce set­
tled on farms in Lincoln county
in a period of five years preced­
ing the formation of the county
chamber, he stated, and after-
wards six settled in five days,
12,000 letters were written to
potential homeseekers during the
year. These people were contact­
ed before they left their homes
in the east he said.

board of directors of the local
chamber of commerce in the
office of Judd Greenman.
