AN EDITORIAL DY LEE SCHWAB
It is to be expected that my last editorial would tell
those who read The Eagle, how sorry I am to leave Ver
nonia, how I have enjoyed living among my many friends
and with what regrets I must leave the city which I
have called home for the past six years.
I’m sorry to go, but at least look forward with keen
enjoyment to living among strangers who will, when
ever sizing up the size of my beak, forget to call me
Rabbi and tell me that old one—about he’s going to eat
ham.
I._jfo to Hood River, where some say will be the
ideal place for me—a place where much ammunition could
be furnished for the large quantity of apple sauce I usually
brew.
I have found that by being the goat you’re better
liked. That is, if the goat doesn’t get too strong, for ev
eryone likes a pet to take a poke at.
During my stay in this city strange things have
amused me greatly, some ol the strangest being, George
Ford, Lester Sheeley, Ellis McGraw and Ed Holtham.
They tell me every town has an A. L. Kullander,
a Jack Bush and J. C. Lindley, but it would seem a mir
acle for any other town to have such a combination as
Ford, Sheeley, McGraw, and Holtham, unless that town
was winter headquarters for some circus.
The majority seem worried about my leaving, es
pecially those whom I owe considerable money to, and with
much concern they inquired day by day, just when and
where I was headed for, etc.
Many will miss me, especially those who, when giving
an ad, failed to specify the size of that ad. Like an as-
tronomer always looking into space, it was with sweet
glee that where possible I always experimented enlarging
small ads.
Those who will miss this, are the ones who were still
to fall prey to this practice.
I doubt if any city with its citizens can treat me more
fairly than Vernonia has. Thank you.
