No Clues Fond to Trace By Investigators Get Cash and Checks Haul Small Safe Three Miles From Keasey to Crack Open With Sledge During the early hours of Sun day morning the postoffice at Keasey was broken into and the small safe which contained the valuables, money orders, cash, etc., was carried away. City Marshal Harry Phelps re ceiving word from Carl Amato ol Camp McGregor, Tuesday located small pieces of the broken safe in the road three miles east from Keasey and located the safe. Notifying Sheriff Weed of St. Helens, and meeting with the go vernment postal inspector, the party inspected the broken safe, where it was found. A sledge had been used in forcing open and knocking off the combination knob. Money order blanks, which if issued, could have been made out to an amount of $130,000, along With $30 worth of stamps were unmolested, the robber or robbers taking only $170 in cash with two railroad checks on the United Railways. No clues have been found. POSTPONE PARTY TO LATER TIME The barn party which was planned by members of the Loy al Gleaners of the Christian church on Saturday will be post poned until after the next meet ing of that organization, July 17. Mrs. George Stankey will be hostess for the meeting at htr home on Rock creek. Garden Club Go On Tour of Gardens Many beautiful gardens were visited by members of the Gar den club on their tour last Tues day afternoon. The T. B. Mills place on Stony Point road is unusually beautiful this year—the succes sions of planting of perennials and annuals show an unusual amount of study and thought. The rock garden, newly complet ed, is exceptional. Other rock gardens visited is the one made by Mrs. T. L. Timmons whose home is on Rose avenue. One member described the garden as “a perfect doll house garden anl perfectly ador able.” Mrs. E. E. Knight has constructed a lily pool with a rockery in her garden on the O.- A. hill. The pool and garden on the Greenman place has been planned and designed by a land scape architect. The whole ef fect is perfectly balanced, the rockery being planted with suit able plants and lilies in their pottery containers placed in the pool. Many other gardens were vi sited, all receiving favorable comment from the members. Starts Work On New Bridge 5 TO 2 SUNDAY The Vernonia Baseball club played the Rainier club Sunday, taking them to a 5 to 2 clean ing. The game was played in fast time and was one of the best exhibitions ever put up by the local club. McGregor, hurl ing for the Redshirts, was in excellent form, allowing only four bingles, all of which were «ingles, and struck out eight of the Rainier batsmen. Rainier crossed the plate first in the third inning when they marked up a run on a walk, a tolcn base and a single. Ver nonia tied the count in their half of the third on a walk, a couple of stolen bases by Linn and a single by Brooks. They added two more in the sixth on successive singles by Hawkins, McGregor, Malmsten and Green man and then pushed across two more in the seventh to make sure of the game, on singles by Linn, Brooks and Malmsten. Rainier shoved their final counter across in the eighth on errors by Malmsten and Mc Gregor. The crowd viewing the game was very small and was most disheartening to the local club. The manager reports that be cause of poor crowds the locals will have to drop out of the Two State league and play indepen dent ball for the remainder of the season. He is at present dickering with St. Helens for a couple of games and will also itry to get games with Jewell and Timber, as well as a few games with some of the faster clubs from Portland.
