Editor LEE SCHWAB STAMPEDE COMMITTEE WORK Our second stampede and celebration is now in progress. A handful of progressive, public spirited citizens who knew the tremendous amount of work involved, in order to swing a celebration, have spent weeks of their valuable time attending to a hundred and one details, getting things in shape for the big celebiation. These men are interested in their city, knowing that Vernonia receives much publicity, draws thousands of visitors within its gates many of whom have never visited here before. As far as receiving any credit or glory for their efforts in sponsoring this affair all those ac tive are interested only in the success of the ven ture, and also knew that if unsuccessful, that the committee would naturally receive its share of, “I told you so’s.” G. W. Font general manager of the stampede committee with the able assistance of C. W. Reith- ner, M. E. Carkin, William Aspland, Emil Messing, Ed. Holtham, Earl Smith, Happy Thompson, Al. Ritchey, Jos. Scott, and many others are those who have done the work. * Again this year, our fire department under the leadership of Earl Smith, have taken care that the streets were swept, cleaned, etc., and credit must also be given to the American Legion who have donated their hall, two days, to the stampede. Every business man cooperated, which is the main reason that a city of this size is capable of staging a celebration such as this.____________________ surveying, returned to this city Monday.
