THURSDAY^ FEBRUARY 7, 1929 VERNONIA EAGLE, VERNONIA, OREGON SEVEN Gosa. Thu negative are Della Cline, Catherine Hoffman and Mildred Tousley. The Timber Line News of Vernonia Schools He Went About Doing Good Evolution of the Earth Is Described The earth nebula had now become small that its cohesion or grav ity, as we recognize the force, be came greater than the centrifugal force, causing the heavier material to collect at the center instead of the outside; consequently no more satellites were formed. The earth had the appearance of a smooth, fiery ball. All the water of the oceans, lakes and rivers together with the elements of low boiling points formed a huge cloud which enveloped the earth in utter dark ness, save for the seething seas of lava, the glowing lakes of mud, and the incessant play of the lightning. Rivers of water condens ed from the sky, became red hot before exploding into steam, due to the pressure of many amospheres. With the noise of hissing steam and exploding lava was coupled. The thunder of continuous electrical disturbances which kept up a never ending roar. This phenomena, though 4 becoming less and less violent, last ed for several thousand years, un til enough heat had been radiated into space to allow most of the water together with most of the less volatile elements and com pounds to condense into an ocean which entirely covered the surface with a depth of one to two miles. The crust of the earth was very thin and would not support any of the numerous mountains of lava which were continually thrown to the surface of the water; conse quently they settled back to their places in the bed of the sea. Thus we see no land for another long period, although the ocean fairly boils in places, while columns of exploding steam are thrown miles above in the heavy atmos phere, which is laden with moisture that is continually condensing back into the sea from the violent thun der storms and typhoons which fol lowed each other in rapid succession It is as dark as night most of the time, the sun breaking through clouds and shining on the turbulant waters only at Jong intervals. Open Quality Ice and Dairy Products for business under new management Makers of NEHALEM VALLEY BUTTER THE new Ford is exception- ally easy to steer because of th* well - proportioned weight of the car, the steel spoke wheels, the co-ordi nated design of springs and shock absorbers, the size and design of the steering wheel, and the simple me chanical construction of the steering gear. The Ford steering gear is of the worm and sector type used on high-priced cars and is three-quarter irreversible. In simple, non-technical language, this means that the car responds easily and quickly to the steering wheel, yet there is no danger of the wheel being jerked from the hands of the driver by ruts or bumps in the road. A light touch guides the car, yet you always have that necessary feel-of-the-road so essential to good driving. Strength of materials and careful workmanship give unusual stability to the Ford the shaft and worm to gether. The steering worm sector is forged and ma chined in the same piece with its shaft. The housing of the steer ing gear mechanism is made of three steel forgings, elec trically welded together. This housing is then electri cally welded to the steering column. Such a one-piece sleel unit is naturally much sturdier than if several parts were used and bolted or riv eted together. Throughout, the new Ford steering mechanism is so simple in design and so care fully made that it requires practically no attention. The only thing for you to do is to have the front steer ing spindles, spindle eon- necting rods, and drag link lubricated every SOO miles and the steering gear lubri cated every 2000 miles. For this work, you will find it best to consult the Ford dealer. He has been specially trained and F ord M otor C ompany
