TO PLAY REGULARLY
Hans Schmidt’s Greater Portland
orchestra of a picked number of
Portland’s best dance musicians, who
are not only artists on their instru­
ments, but also keep the crowd pep­
ped up with their songs, novelty and
comedy numbers, will play here each
Saturday night at Coyle’s hall for
the dances given there.
Mr. Schmidt received his musical
education in England and Germany.
He has been musical director of Am­
erican operettas, motion picture or­
chestras and is a pipe organist.
However, he finds directing a live
orchestra the most fascinating occu­
pation. He loves to present his au­
diences with the lust and most tune-

similar to that of America’s greatest
recording musicians. He hopes that
the crowds soon will be large enough
to enable the management to bring
his entire orchestra to Vernonia ev-
ery week end.
Many of the members of the or-
chestra are also members of the of-
ficial Elks band, considered by many
the best in Portland. The present
facilities for putting on novelty
numbers and comedy stunts ar: in­
adequate, but the management
hopes to overcome this soon. The
orchestra will play Saturday. Come
and dance. If you don’t dance, come
