PITTSBURG, July 23,—(Special
Correspondent.)—N. D. Peterson of
Natal went to Portland Thursday on
the stage and returend Saturday.
Erma Brady of Vernonia spent
Saturday and Sunday with Myrtle
Mowe.
Mrs. Mollie Wright of Mist was a
passenger on Wednesday stage for
Portland, where she spent a few
days with her daughter.
Helen Hill of Portland, spent the
week-end with her father, P. H. Hlil
W. C. Lindsay, R. O. Lindsay,
Myrtle and Cecelia Pye of Portland
spent Saturday adn Sunday at R.
S. Lindsays.
Teddy Erickson was calling on
friends in this vicinity Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Pearsun and
son John of Portland took dinner at
Lindsays Sunday.
Clarence Lindsay of the Vernonia
saw mill, was seen in this vicinity
Sunday, riding with one of our
young ladies.

Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Mowe and
family attended a birthday party in
Vernonia last Saturday evening at
Mr. Brady’s in honor of their little
daughter Norma’s fifth birthday.1
They report a fine time and lota of

children returned to their home last
week after a months absence.
Mr. and Mrs. EBtus and Bon
called on Mrs. David McMullen Sun
day.
Annie McMullen is spending a
few days with her grandmother in
Vernonia this week.
Mrs. David McMullen and child­
ren spent Wednesday with Mrs. Ed
McMullen. They all enjoyed a birth­
day dinner it being M tb . E. McMul­
len’s birthday .
Richard Peterson is working at
the harvest fields.
Mrs. J. B. West from Gresham
is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Hold­
ing for a while.
Ed McMullen was home for a
short time Thursday night.
Annie McMullen spent a few days

Mrs. Edith Becker from Seattle,
Mrs. A. F. Ornduff’s neice, spent
a few days visit with her for a short
while.
Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Ornduff and
family spent a week at Newport and
South Beach visiting relatives and
reported a wonderful trip.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Rainwater
baby boy was seriously hurt while

Mrs. Hubar and Mrs. Stailey are
visiting at the Martin Rainwater
home.
Mrs. Dan Rainwater’s brother
and wife of Forest Grove are spend­
ing a few days on the Nehalem and

spend the week-end with . parents
and daughter in a brand new Stude­

We hear there are some new neign-
bors in our neighborhood, who
bought the old Turk place, Mr. and
Mrs. Dickerson.
Mr. Bergerson is sure making
wonderful roads up this way.
The steam shovel is grading the
Timber hill down. Thia means r.ore
good roads up this way.
Jess Omduff is working again
for the Sunset camp, setting chockers
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Miller and
Mrs. A. F. Ornduff motored to Ber-
kenfeld to spend the day with Mr.
and Mrs. Lewis Nelson.
The Sunset camp had a small fire
but at thia writing is pretty well
under control.
Miss Emarld John is going o teach
the Ornduff school this term.

This Thursday morning, fire is
spreading near Keasey, a few miles
northwest of Vernonia. Ashes are
falling over Vernonia and fire going
todard logging camps. The big bam
at the old Boeck farm burned during
the night. It is hoped that the large
bunch of fighters can get the fire
under control today.
Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Hoffman and
children are on a week’B vacation
in Marshfield and other parts of
southwestern Oregon.
Mrs. Sarah C. North of Corval­
lis and her son Alfred M. North of
Riverside, California, with his yonng
son, are visiting relatives and old
time friends up river this week.
The Pleasant Hill dairy, operated
by Weaver Clark and son, is featur­
ing their Jersey milk,delivered any
place in Vernonia.
Any one and
everyone is invited to inspect this
sanitary dairy a short distance from
town.
The Pleasant Hill dairy is
asking a share of your milk busi­
ness and guarantees their product.
W. O. Galloway was out from
Portland Tuesday.
Dance at Coyle hall this Satur­
day night—come dressed as a farm-

here Sunday. Ryderwood, the cham-
pions, are coming over, It will be
exciting and Vernonia will come
out at the top.
“The Vanishing American,” a
Zane Gray story, and one of the
biggest pictures ever produced, will
be shown at the Coyle hall this Fri­
day night. Tonight.
Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Fenner were
Astoria visitors over Sunday.
Alvin Olsen was operated on at
the Good Samaritan hospital last
week for a very serious operation
for kidney trouble.
Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Rogus are
spending a couple of weeks at the
beach.
Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hixon spent
a couple of days in Portland at the
