COMMITTEE VERNONIA SCOUTS GO ON VACATION Officers and Appointments Made at The annual summer encampment, under supervision of the Portland Council, Boy Scouts of America, is now open for the season on the ocean near Tillamook. Vernonia boys will leave for Portland today and go from there to the camp on the beaches. Each scout-furnishes his own nui- form and equipment and pays his board of $6.09 per week for the two weeks camp. He must be supplied with clothing, cooking utensils, dish es, bedding, toilet articles, and may also carry other things in his duf fle, or barracks bag, The daily pro gram consist of setting-up exercises, swimming lessons, flag raising, work hour, test work, games, inspection and campfire. Quarters consist of wall tents with wooden floors am* double deck wooden bunks. A series of awards will be made for advancement in Scoutcraft, camp helpfulness and camp activity, con- sisting of some handsome emblem.' and honor hats, The summer camp grounds consis tof a donation of fib acres and the purchase of 408 acre: for $21,000, with ocean frontage of about a mile and a half, ideally sit uated for a Boy Scout camp. At the south end is a fresh water lake of about six acres, with sand beach, the water being clea rand ideal for swim ming. The shore line of Tillamook county presents all known kinds of topographical and physiographies) formations. Hikes up and down the beach for miles will take the boys over rugged and beautiful Cape Look out, around Netarts Bay, around Cape Mears, over sand spits, bays, and estuaries, even as far north as Cape Falcon and Necarney moun tain, and south aroun Sand Lake, Cape Kiwanda, Nestucca Bay and as far as picturesque Neskowin and rugged Cascade Head. --------- ♦--------- VERNONIA Meeting Held in St. Helens.
