American people.
What one owes to his or -her coun
tr .varies in the minds of different
people. It is a subject which is worth
great consideration to any who are
old enough to realize.
After the discovery of America in
the fourteenth century .thousands of
people immigrated to this country.
Because it was called “the land of
the free;" where they could live in
peace and worship as they pleased.
Again in the seventeenth century
when England’s tyranny became so
strong that the colonists rebeled.Be
cause jjeace was so sweet and liberty
so dear, that they took up arms to
fight for their freedom; which they
'had the following year. This is one
of the greatest things that every wo
man, man and child owe to their
country today.
So great are we in debt to our
country for the peace and liberty
.which we enjoy. During the world
war when the German battle ships
sunk American vessels, with helpless
women and'children aboard with the

Because she knew that Germany’s
intentions were to rule and dominate
the world.
Before Uncle Sam was through
with them, they could see an Am-

Livestock Prices Improve
Sales recently made show that the livestock industry is
coming back, particularly in the cattle industry, both in
the beef and dairy breeds. Livestock raising, through care
lul breeding and modem production methods, can pro
fitably be engaged in by every farmer and should be es
pecially attractive to those who have heretofore depen
ded upon one crop for their income. We, here at the
Bank of Vernonia are naturally desirous of seeing this
great industry become an evergrowing part of fanning
operations in this community. Cooperation is gladly given
to those who merit it.
We wiiih to take this means to cx-
press our thanks to our many
friends who gathered at the parsin-
ago on Monday evening and so
pleasantly surprised us.
