The only thing that keeps some
men around Vernonia from becom-
ing real “soap box” orators is that
they’re afraid of soap.
The fact that we have vulgar
magazines isn’t the thing to worry
about. We ought to be worrying to
think that there are enough vulgai
people in this country to support
them.
The best way is to so live that

If you make up your mind right now to place
a specified portion of your earnings each pay
day to your credit in a Savings Account, then you
can feel assured that you are on the highway to
success. You will have a nest egg upon which you
can depend when old age creeps on and your
earnings cease.

The question of raising more
money to complete the present
highway program could be helped
out wonderfully if a law was
passed taxing all bill boa-ds on the
state highway »100.00 each, every
year. This would add quite a big
sum of money, for it would sur
prise one to know the large n’”"-'
ber of bill boards there are in Cr -
gon, dis-figuring the state highways
Anyway, a tax on bill boards would
soon put a stop to that system of ad
vertising, for it is not worth the
money people expend for bill
boardse.—Tillamook Headlight.

One step won’t take you very far,
You’ve got to keep on walkin’;
One word won’t tell folks who you
are.
You’ve got to keep on talking; '
An inch won’t make you very tall.
You’ve got to keep on growing;
One little ad won’t do it all.
You’ve got to keep on going,
A constant fall of water
Wears away the hardest stone;
By constant gnawing Towsor
Masticates the toughest bone;
The constant cooing lover
Carries off the blushing maid;
And the constant advertiser
Is the one who gets the trade.

DID YOU EVER STOP TO THINK
■
—By—
E. R. Waite, Secretary, Shawnee, Okla., Cham
ber of Commerce.
That the financial assets of a community
measure its prosperity.
That money spent away from home decreases
the assets of the home community and shrinks
its prosperity.
That spending money in the home city does
much to increase these assets and in increas
ing its prosperity.
That if you are looking fur bargains, read the
ads in local papers.
That at certain seasons stores needing shelf
room for next seasons goods, make very at
tractive prices in order to move stocks.
That you should watch for advertised sales. At
them you can buy goods at less than their real
value.
YOU SHOULD KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN
WATCH THE ADS. IT IS FOOLISH TO DE
NY YOURSELF TO HOARD MONEY.
RARGAIN DAYS ARE FRUITFUL DAYS
FOR THE THRIFTY SHOPPERS.
BARGAIN DAYS ARE THE DAYS WHEN
YOU CAN BUY QUALITY AT LESS.
WISE PERSONS ALWAYS SPEND WHEN
THEY CAN SAVE BY SPENDING.
