County Agriculturist
The ground that is to be planted
to alfalfa should now be gotten in
good condition for this spring’s plant
ing. By getting the ground in good
shape at this time of year and work
ing it occasionally the weeds and grass
can be killed, so that the ground will
be much cleaner at planting time.
The practices followed so far have
shown that about the best time to sow
is during the month of May and as
late as the first of June. Having the
ground clean and free of weeds is
more important than having plenty of
moisture in the early spring. Alfalfa
is a dry land plant and will grow
with a limited amout of moisture.
In selecting ground for the growing
of alfalfa be sure that it is well drain
ed as alfalfa will not grow in a wet
soil. The ground selected should be
an open soil with a well drained sub
soil.
