latest developments made by Robert
Wurzburg and the engineers who
came fiom eastern tire factories to
establish the Columbia Tire Corpor
ation at Portland.

“This particular size tire, the 36x
6, has always stood in a class by
itself,’’ says Wurzburg. “It is used
altogether on trucks and busses
where it invariably is subjected to
great abuse and overloaded. Wo
have not made this size until now,
because we wanted to complete an
engineering study of this particular
size based on observations and tests

duty tires for trucks and commercial
purposes, we have placed a limit on
ourselves as to quantity and quality
of materials. This combined with
the most careful hand workmanship
and design, we believe is bound to
give satisfaction to those who de
mand extreme service from a cas-
ing.
According to President Wurzburg,
the Columbia Tire Corporation en
joyed wonderful progress during
1924. On its second anniversary
this company can point to a remark-
ble record—perhaps the most re
markable of any of the newer com
panies. It has a distribution now
extending throughout the west and
has particularly made great strides
in Southern California which is a
concentration point for tire com
petition.
Since C.T.C.’S came on the mar
ket, their popularity has been much
in evidence as witnessed by the
many orange colored tire covers
that are seen on the streets and high
ways. Apparently, the motorist is
very friendly towards this new
Western-built tire, which is en
gineered and produced by a group
of the most experienced tire men.
Everyone concedes that most of the
raw materials for tire building can
be landed more easily on the west
coast. Water freight, for instance,
from New York to Portland, is less
than rail rate from New York to
Akron. And from a market stand
point, it is said that 30 per cent of
the tires produced in this country
are used west of the Rocky, where
as only 3 per cent are produced here.
It is the avowed intention of
President Wurzburg and his asso
ciates not to sell C.T.C.’s on a home
industry appeal. “Our first and only
thought is to build the best tire that
can possibly be manufactured. In
our group of engineers, we have men
who were connected with American’s
largest tire factories. We were am
bitious to put together our ex
perience and build out here in the
West one of the most modern type
plants possible.

Within a short time C.T.C. full
balloons will be placed on the market
giving the company a complete line
consisting of full balloons, semi-bal
loons, heavy-duty cords low pres
sure standard cords, fabric tires and
tubes.
