WHERE WILL IT END?
SCHOOL TEACHERS COMING
Vernonia citizens may think this
country has gone crazy over cross
word puzzles, but it’s because they
haven't beard from abroad. We see
in a news dispatch that it has hit
Great Britain even harder than it
has the U.S.A., and that even Queen
Mary is a rabid croas-word fan. Well,
it's all right with us if British breth
ren want to join with us in the
gratest pastime that has swept over
the nation in its history. And if the
League of Nations wants to offer
prizes to the champion cross-word
puzzle experts of the world, we're
for it. It’s a harmless pastime, and
•a long as it keeps one hunting thru
the dictionary it ought to be worth
something
from an educational
standpoint. Who can tell, either,
but that if all the nations in the
world get so deeply absorbed in the
puzzles as this country and Great
Britain they will forget all of their
bitterness toward each other and
lose all desire for war.

this Saturday. County Superintend
ent Kias Perry will lecture and be
in charge and Miss Katherine Ar-
bethnut, of the Oregon State Nor
mal School will be the principal
speaker. There will be a period of
Readings for the teachers. Prof.
Wilkerson will deliver an address
and Miss Keizur will have a Primary
Demonstration.
Visiting teachers
from all county schools are expected.
Vernonia City has twenty teachen,
so the large attendance is assured.

have done for the past two seasons,
St. Helens let the opposing team get

quarter ended with Vernonia leading
by a 10 to 4 score. In the second
quarter St. Helens played a good
game and at the end of the half they
lead by a two-point margin the score
being 14 to 12 in their favor.
Vernonia tied the score in the
third quarter and went ahead in the

game and witnessed by several hun-
