About two dozen men of Portland,
Seattle and Kansas City made up the
party that visited Vernonia Sunday
and inspected the big mill here. With
Vice-President Schofflin of the Cen­
tral Coal & Coak Co., and Mr. Me-
Gregary of the Oregon-American
Lumber Co. and Lalesmen of the
Blyth, Witter & Co. Bonding House
with the Portland manager, Mr. M.
P. Griffiths, they were shown over
the entire plant by Supt. E. E. Hayes
We met some of the party who spoke
in glowing terms of Vernonia’s fu­
ture. Some wondered why the city
didn’t have a large modern hotel,
and seemed to think that at least our
main street should have been paved
ere this. This Bonding House is hand­
ling the million and a half issue of
new bonds for the Central Coal &
Coak Co., and consequently are in­
terested in Vernonia. Mr. Boyd, their
municipal Bond Buyer was in the
