One of the latest progressive move­
ments in the school was the examina­
tion of the children by a doctor. Sev-
eral were excused from school for a
few days to prevent the spread of the

to cure these, it is hoped that tbe
pupils may return to school after the
holidays. The co-operation of the
parents is asked.
We need a county nurse to visit the
schools and advise us on ailments and

"Carnival of Nations,” at Grade
school January 18. 1924. Watch for
later information.
The Boy Scouts of America meet in
the Grade school assembly hall each
Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock. All
boys between 12 and 18 years of age
may join. A banquet will be given
the Scouts in the near future.
Parents, this is your school, with
354 pupils registered during this year,
and new ones registering nearly every
day. Of this number about 10 have
moved away. There are 16 more girls
than hoys registered, but what the
boys lack in numbers, they make up
in pep. The teachers are with the
boys and girls. They need the hearty
co-operation of all parents.

Resovled Further, That this resolu­
tion for the proposed charter amend­
ment submitted to the voters by the
couneil be filed with the Recorder for
submission to the legal voters of the
City of Vernonia for their adoption or
rejection to be voted upon at a special
election to be held as herein provided.
Resolved Further, That the couneil
deems it necessary and advisable and
does hereby call and make necessary
provisions for the holping of a special
election which shall be and hereby is
called to be eeld on the 7tb day of Jan­
uary, 1924, betweon the legal voting
hours on said date, at the Grange hall
in the city of Vernonia, Oregon, and
that R. Sees man, chairman, and J. A.

lating water.
Be It Enacted By the People of the
City of Vernonia- That Section 94 of
Chapter VIII of the charter of the City
of Vernonia, Columbia county, Oregon
aa enacted and adopted by the people
of the city of Vernonia, on the 7th day
of November, 1922, relating to water
bo, and the same ia hereby amended to
read as follows:
Section 94. For the purpose of con­
structing a water system, a filtering
and chlorine system the coutcil is au­
thorised to issue bonds in a sum not ex
eroding Sixty Thousand Dollars, which
bonds shall not exceed six per cent per
annum. The council shall have the
power to purchase or lease property
within the limits of said city, if neces­
sary, to maintain storage reservoirs
and tanks; and shall have the power to
