David Davis then was editor, printer and manager of that paper. Trials and tribulations were common and with no rail roads it kept the paper in debt planning to get enough white paper in the fall to print the sheet on during the long, muddy, dark winters. All this is past history to be commented on at a later date. Mr. Davis, now of The Timberman, a national publica tion for its many readers through out America who are interested in the timber industry, visited Vernonia Sunday and Monday. Mr. Davis is a property-owner in Vernonia, and every so often finds the temptation too great tp resist a visit here. It had been a year since his last visit to the Nehalem Valley. He stood as one in a trance, and marvelled at the new Vernonia. With probably 1 0 houses under construction, new streets, many new business blocks and some 1500 inhabitants, it is little wonder that Mr. Davis hardly recognized the Vernonia of past days.
