This advertising service is what the readers as well as the advertisers demand. The ads will be illustrated, and the Eagle will attend to the copy writing and arranging in any case the advertiser requiree it The service in copyrighted by the Western Newspaper Union, and the cost to us is in three figures for the years contract. The advertisers using it however will only be out the small sum of one dollar a month for all ex tra ad service and for the cuts used. We have arranged for hundreds of cuts to choose from each month, so that each weeks ad can have a new cut if desired at no extra cost. Pictures in ads are used more every day, and we felt that the time had arrived in Vernonia when the paper takes on steps toward a There are metropolitan sheet twelve hundred people in Ver nonia and we don’t believe there u dozen families not reading the Eagle regularily every week. Th« annual county picnic of the I. O. O. F. will be held in Clatskanie Sunday, July 29. The lodge is expected to be the host of about 500 Odd Fellows and their families from the four lodge* in Co lumbia county. Rainier, St. Helens and Vernonia are the other town* having charters. Ray Bryant is chairman of the local committee and he says he is expecting every Odd Fellow in the county to come and bring his wife or sweetheart or both. C. S. Bristol and Kenneth McGillivary are the others on the committee. An old-fashioned basket dinner, sports, an Odd Fellow baseball game, another game between Clatskanie and Kalama, music and an address are all going to be a part of the big picnic. All the visitor* will bring basket lunches and the local lodge will fur nish ice cream and coffee.—Chief. Plan OR a Magni The big mill now being con structed in Vernonia is wonder ful. It is the biggest undertak ing in Oregon today. If space would permit, this week, we would like to again tell of the magnificence of it. The big Burner now being built is 90 ft. in diameter and 126 feet high, the pond will cover over 40 acres the buildings and yards will cover 200 acres. Many men are at work and the immense job is being rushed. W. R. C. TO ENTERTAIN VERNONIA CORPS Shepardstown Relief Corps held an other of their interesting meetings on Saturday, July 14, and among other business disposed of they made their final plan* for a dinner which they will serve on July 25 when they will entertain member* of the G. A. R. and W. R. C. of Vernonia. These occa sion*. when the Vernonia people visit the Clatskanie meeting* are very en joyable affair* and all are looking forward to that day. — Gatskanie Chief. A ride up Rock Creek this week also shows us one of the pretty drives of Oregon. Some nice farms on this road that need cleaning up. Some day this Rock Creek road will be a succession of fine dairy farms and the sooner the better for owners and for the community. Saturday night crowd* in Vernonia are getting so thick that the main street won't hold the machines. Last Saturday night it was almost impos sible for a machine to get through. A parking ordinance will soon be in order. Some strangers were com pelled to remain up all night, not being able to secure a room.
