What The Local Paper Does
ment a community can make.
It may not be brillant or crowd
ed with great thoughs but fin
ancially it is of more benefit to a
community than a teacher or a
ureacher. Understand us, now,
we do not mean morally or in-
tellec ually, but financially, and
jeton the moral question you
will find that a majority of the
local Dapers are on the right
side of the question. Today the
editors of the local papers do
most work for the least of any
people living.—Somerton. Aria.,
Star.
Reading many papers each
week, one begins to know many
towns and cities, and the busi
ness conditions of those towns
by the appearance of the “town
paper.” Ina great many places
during the winter we noticed
large“Bankrupt Sales” advertí
sed. Large and small towns
have had one or more such cal
amities, Not so in Vernonia.
True, here s elsewhere, the
season just past, has been tough

today, no town in Oregon has
as bright an outlook as Vernonia
We have not had a bankrupt.
We are all “pulling through”

optomism, patience and a sub
stancial town.
Each and evciy local paper
gives from $100 to $5,000 in free
lines for the benefit of the com
munity in which it is located.
No other agency can or will do
this. The local editor, in propor
tion to his means, does more
for his home town than any other
