The Association is a strong one and many improvements are booked for this valuable proper ty. Grand stand, field track, ball diamond, athletic building, etc. Eight enterprising men of Varnonia made this possible by going in |100 each to start the ball rolling. Work on the ground has started "hnd the first ball game of the season in Vernonia will shortly be announced. Our team this year promises to be the best in these parts, and fast games can be expected. Next Monday night in Sessman Hall a big base ball meeting will be held to talk up the season’s pro gress. Everyone that is inter ested in the least is urged to come to the meeting Monday night. The New Laundry Weaver Clark tells us that all toe machinery for their new steam Laundry has not arrived yet but its on its way. In the mean time they are taking care of all the laundry work that comes their way. It is home in stitution and worthy of patron age. A good steam laundry like they are putting in is needed, and Vernonia is glad to see the Clarks on the job. All who were present report a good time. Alice Enyart, a former student at V. H. S., visited school last Wednesday. Harry Keasey was absent from school the first of the week on account of illness. The Seniors are a busy bunch these days, having class meet ings and getting ready for Com mencement. Special Doings at Win One Club Last Friday night a good sized crowd gathered at the Win One Club. After an hour or two of music, conversation and the game of Progressive Five Hun dred, the guests were invited to the front of the hall to the un veiling of a mysterious pile of something. To the genuine sur prise of Mr. and Mrs Wni. r Coyle it turned out to be a “Ku- chen Shower” to these fine peo pie, as a token of the friend ships of those neighbors present Last week Mr. and Mrs. Coyle lost all their household goods when tneir residence burned, not sav ing a thing, and the little shower was a small way of demonstrat ing the best wishes of these friends. As soon as he was appointed he at once began looking around for a suitable location and has found two, either of which would meet with general approval. The Co. Foor Farm which could be sold for $12,000 and brings only $175 per year rental, which he con siders mighty poor business, as taxes and interest on the invest ment would more than net that amount. This place is beauti fully situated on the Highway and would be ideal for a race track and farm demonstrations. This place now being owned by owned by the county, no outlay would be needed. The other place is a tract on the Columbia River between the riv jr and the highway, ideally located—the location appealy to many. It is the purpose of Secretary Adams to have a location and be re <dy for the holding of the fair on new grounds a year from this fall.
