RIVAL LOVERS.
Two rival brothers once there were
Who dearly loved a maid;
Now John was bright and full of fun,
Rut Tom was somewhat staid.
And so it happened when they met
Poor Tom was always mute,
While John; with.manners debonair,
Seemed gaining fast his suit.
And so this night, as oft before
Tom heard his brother pay
Such pretty compliments- in truth,
He wished him far away.
He felt he’d have no further chance,
He must forsake the dame,
When happily a thought arose
And inspiration came.
And, turning to the maid, he said,
“I pray, l>e not decieved,
This soft soap all, I firmly hope,
That you have not believed.”

And, much to his relief, replied
The maid of ready wit,
‘‘Fear not, I don’t believe a word.
There’s too much lie in it.”

And “every place that Mary went ’
The Iamb went, too —allow
That this was so, once on a time;
It must be different now.
“It followed her to school one day,”
We also this allow;
The teacher turned it out of course
Where is that teacher now?
“What makes the lamb love Mary so?
The children cry allow
This to betrue those children must
Be very old folks now.
And Mary? Wolf she lived one time.
That also we allow;
But we have wads of wealth to Let
She isn’t living now.
