ATHLETES SET EXAMPLE
Coach E. H. French's action in bringing together in
dividual stars of the various basketball teams of the coun
ty for one grand finale to usher out the most successful
basketball season in the county's history, was cotrmen 1
able in more ways than one.
On one floor were congregated siar athletes trom
four different towns of the county. They represented
even different basketball organizations and two distinct
tvpe of uiavei-s one that of the trained athletic bodies
sponsored bv the high schools of the state and the otr.er
that ahtletic manhood that never tires of or grows too old
to indulge in friendlv athletic contests of this kind. Uieir,
disparity in ages ranged from sixteen to 80 but their en-,
thusiasm was as one age. t
The county benefited from this contest in a measure '
that is indeterminable. It brought out and perhaps ce
mented a better feeling of comradeship than nas anumng
that has been done in recent months.
Merchants might well profit iVom this incident for
what is srood for Cloverdale anil Blaine and Wheeler is
also good for Tillamook. And vice versa.

EMPLOY CHECKS

HZ.- ' L
A man's life is too short to waste any great portion ot
frtr inir nvpr a trifline matter of business.
If a man has a mind to be annoyed by eveiy little
mishap that occurs in his establishment, he can keep him
self in constant hot water by worrying.
There is neither sense nor reason in flying into a tit
of passion because a careless clerk breaks a fixture or com-
mits some other trifling blunder. Contant fretting on the
part of the employer makes clerks nervous and in this
condition of mind and body they are far more apt to make ,
errors than otherwise.
Business worry wears a man out prematurely, and
when the habit of fussing is once acquired, it is extremely
difficult to rid one's self of it. There are men who work
themselfes into a fit of passion over insignificant matters
not woithy of serious consideration. There are others who
fret because they fear something unpleasant is going to
happen to their business career: they may have obligations
to meet, a bill due at the bank, while their customers can
not be depended upon to help them out of a tight corner,
but there is no earthly use of borrowing trouble until
trouble comes, and then an enterprising merchant should
meet it manfully.
There is a great difference in merchants; some wear. ONE version of spring

reponsibilities, who are calm and well poised, patient and
nervy, live to good old age without borrowing trouble or
shattering their nerves over trifles.

If care kills, it is the "Don't Care" variety. The man
who say3 "I don't care to advertise'' i3 giving a mighty
lame excuse for his poor business foresight. Usually he
finds that his "don't care" policy puts spider webs on his
goods.

A lot of folks lope through life without ever stopping
to take one whiff of the incense of the cool, sweet glades

Of course, all of us are, more or less, harried by the
wolves of life, that snap at the heels of our soul, and force
us to keep plunging along, 'o.t we fall and be devoured-
But God always gives us a breathing spell for our
