The hosts of the evening made brief repliee. expressing thdr pleasure at bng able to meet with the buisncss men. Facd C. Baki'x pres dent of the 'be of Commerce, and secretary of tne Roosevelt Memorial Coast Highway Association, was tho next to be called upon. He read a letter ' 'om State Senator C. J. Edwards.who had an important subject to disctus ' -at evening, stating that on account of sickness he was unable to attend. Mr. Baker sa d in part: "There arc thi.ee important events that are now assured the building of a r. ilroad down tho Wilson river to this crty, the build ng of the Roose velt highway and the exposition in Portland in 1025. In regard to the "'lson r'ver railroad, thc business interests of this community should extend to it thc glad hand, and this, I th'nk will be the attitude of the busncss men of this city. As to the Roosevelt Highway and the exposition the two projects are woven so much together that tho coast counties must and will reap great benefits from both. "Pcrsona'Iy, I bel'evc thnt thc Coast highway is to bo of more importance to the state of Oregon than the expo sition, but as tho metropolis is de sirous of holding nn expositon in 1925, which is a great advertising en terprise, nnd from which all parts of Oregon wl reap some advantage. I sec no reason why all sections of Oregon canot co-operattf. It wi'l bo Tillnmook county's own fault if it docs not reap great benefit. There is, however, little opposit'on U tha exposition in this section tho differ one of opin on being in how the ex position should be- financed. I for onu hope that the proponents of the exposition will bo able to solve this p-toblcm In a manner that w?l meet with general approval." "I will like to mention this fact, when the Roosevelt highway measure was before the people, and when thc coast counties staged (a strenuous ampalgn, tho newspapers of Portland without one exception supported tho measure, and when tho votes wero east Multnomah county was there with the goods with 12,000 majority In its favdr;. The majority in favor of the thoughtful and favorable cons dera tion to the construction of the Roose velt Highway, and to assure the Cetti mission of the co-operation of the County Court and the people of Tilla mook county in the buitd'ng of thre great highway, which will add much to the future development of the state of Oregon."
