Portland. Oregon's Sunday closing law, now before the federal court on a question of constitutionality. Is to be submitted to tho voters of the state next fall under the Initiative. Peti tions asking for the submission of the question of repealing the act have been printed and will be circulated throughout the r.tate. Dan Kcllaber heads a committee of merchants behind the plan. The printed petitions have been delivered to him, and will be placed In the hands of circulators at once. The Sunday closing low In question was passed by the legislature In 18G4 and was never repealed. It was re surrected recently to force the closing of grocery stores. Soon after the old law was dug up and an effort made to enforce it persons opposed tc the closing of grocery stores and other places, except saloons, on Sundays, be gan work on the plan to submit the question to the voters. The result Is the printed petitions and an organ lied plan for their circulation through out the state.
