METHODISTS, PRESBYTERIANS AND UNITED BRETHREN UNITE One of the most delightful social affairs that ever was planned in this v.t- occurred Thutsdav evening of this wctk, in the Guild House of the Pres byterian church, when three of the letting churches of this city united in so allv seeing the oki year terminate, an 1 welcome the advent of a new year 15. The hall was well rilled with a boice company of young ami ohi, mostly young, when the first number ci the musical (.rogram was called. T e choice oki favorites were render ed by the best soloists of the city, readings were Riven, chaste and lively games were indulged in, from dominoes to the now popular Virginia Keel, cry stal candy was prepared by a volunteer army of aproned gentlemen, corn wa popped and passed the guests, the social and good fellowship stream never flowed more smoothly and over- flowing, and last but n t least, a de bate was announce.! and participated in with the victorious candidate for countv attorney as opener, and Mr. E. J. Claussen another bright attorney as respondent. The debate was simply thrilling. The students of American history were forcibly reminded of an other debate to .vhich this was a close second, vii, the Webster and Hayne debate in the U. S. Senate in 1S30. In the midst of the pure and undetileii revelry when the beauty and chivalry of Tillamook had gathered to do honor to old Dame Time, when music rose with its enchanting swell, when youth ful hearts beat liappily, when soft eyes 1 "oked love to eves that spake again, when all went merry as a marriage bell; but hush! hark! the chiming of the church bells proclaimed the hoi when "A 1ftrff;vN'w. Hear!' rang o' from every hp, and "Good Night", the best time of my life, drew down tlu' curtain and turned the lights. OBITUARY John C. Sanders was born in Ger many, June 10, 1S33, diel in Tillamook, Oregon, December 27, 19M, age 31 years, 6 months. 17 days. He came to America with his parents at the age of four and located in Mis souri. A short time aftur arriving in .Mit iouri his parents died, leaving a farrily of boys and girls without par ents. Schmidt ami Anton Sanders of Moberly, Mo.; Clara Sand ers of Sweet Water, Idaho; ami Mn. L. Peltx and Herman Sanders of Tilla mook. Ho died at the home of his sister Mrs. 1VIU. At the funeral which was held at the Catholic church, Kov. Father Van Clarenbeek spoko of the deceased as being an exemplary young man who had died believing steadfastly in his faith. ' The Presbyterian church which has al ways been a lea ler in the work of re ligious education, has taken an ad vance step in its educational plan for the current year. The four general features of the nlan are (I) Member ship increase, (2) Class organisation. (3) Training Leaders, and (t) Educa tional Evangelism. The details of the plan were fully explained by Drs. Mil ligan and Hays. The conference was well attended, and an unusual interest aroused in Sunday School work. The chief aim of the Presbytena i Sunday school is to develop the religiuus life of the child. Fun and soeialibility has its own proper place, but even that in chaste and uplifting.
