COMMUNITY DAY IN
COUNTRY
THE
Saturday, November 22, has been
designated as Community Day in the
American Education Week program
for 1924. It is hoped that there will
be a community meeting that day or
evening in every schoolhouse in
America. The subjects suggested for
discussion are of particular value to
rural communities, the central idea
being “Service to Community, State,
and Nation is the duty of every citi
zen.” Here is a suggested program:
1. Equality of opportunity in edu
cation for every American boy and
girl.
2. Better rural schools.
3. Adequate public library service
for every community.
4. A community's concern for edu
cation measures its interest in its
own future.
5. Good roads build a community.
Slogans—Get acquainted with your
neighbor.
A square deal for the
country boy or girl. Children today,
citizens tomorrow.
Teachers and community leaders
will add to or subtract from the
above program or modify in such a
way as to meet local conditions.
