George Harness, pastor of the Til
lamook Christian church, and several
delegates have return«, .rom the an
nual state convention ol the Oregon
Christian churches, that is held at
Turner, in Marion county each year,
from July 5 to 13 inclusive. The at
tendance this year was better than
it has been for the last fifteen years,
reaching between 3,000 and 4,000
people. Hackleman, the great song
leader, conducted a chorus of about
200 voices, that closed the convention
with a splendid cantata. At the last
Sunday of the convention 2,000 or
more heard Reverend Griffis of the
First Christian church of Portland
deliver the principle address of the
convention, and as many attended the
communion service in the afternoon.
The Tillamok church won the state
banner agan this year for having the
largest number of delegates present
at the Christian Endeavor session.
Rev. Harness was chosen to act as
head of the athletics. He organized
two baseball teams, the Dads and the
Do-dads, who played six games for
the convention championship.
The
Do-dads won all the games and as a
prize, a Tillamook cheese was award
ed the winning team. As a result of
the activities of Rev. Harness and the
other Tillamook delegates, quite a
number of the Christian preachers
are spending their vacation at our
beaches this' summer.
