way through. At the end of what
was suppose 1 to be a ten round con
test, the referee held up a mit of
each man. Urbanek is a boxer, and
Gardieu while not as scienced as his
opponent, is both a good boxer and a
hard fighter. Urbanek showed traces
of the fight, while Gardieu was barely 1
marked. As an able exponent of the I
rabbit punch, Gardieu has few equals ;
in his class.

They also
want, states Mr. Church, to join the
Tillamook Creamery association, as
they have nothing of the kind in their
own county. Their idea is to annex
a strip the width of the county, and
at least six miles deep, to Tillamook
county, and thus escape the county
port tax, which they claim is unjust
for the reason that they get no benefit
from it.
The people of the Salmon river sec-
tion have been isolated by bad roads
for many years, and the building of
the Roosevelt highway now offers an
opportunity for them to prosper by
being able to market their dairy pro
ducts.
There is considerable Indian land
in the north part of Lincoln county
which is being offered for sale by the
Indian agent at Siletz, for the benefit
of the Indians of the Siletz reserva
tion, and much of it is said to be good
land; and there would seem to be op
portunities for settlers in the north
part of the county. Farm land, on
account of the isolation of the Salmon
river country in the past, is still
cheap, compared with land where
there are good roads, but this will be
changed so soon as the Roosevelt
highway is finished.
Asked what the chance was that
the trade of the Salmon river country
might be diverted to this county upon
completion of the highway, Mr.
Church stated that it was his opinion
that Tillamook was just as near, if
not nearer than any other town, and
that he personally believed much of
the Salmon river business would come
this way, later on.
