a comparative method, and thus
play an important part. By taking
water temperature at the beach, we
are able by our methods to find just
what it is for a certain distance fur

able to find where the thermal ter

from a gven point, which, of course,
would be the beach, where the instru

know how, and we do not have to go
to sea and test the water with a
thermometer."
"1 am hazarding a guess,” said the
scientist, “that I will not not find a
great deviation of the current off the
upper part of the Oregon const, but
again, I may be mistaken; but it is
•slowly tending westward."
Then the two old friends and for

in the direction of Astoria.
