Good morning. The Headlight is
glad to greet and welcome every one
of you to the Tenth Annual Tillamook
County Fair.
The fair board has promised to
make this the most successful county
exposition ever held in this commun­
ity and from the appearances of the
work and exhibits their promise will
bt fulfilled.
It would be hard to enumerate all
the advantages accruing front such an
institution as this. First, we might
mention the wonuerful get-together
spirit which necessarily must prevail
in the working out of such a program;
next, the great stimulus to pride in
achievement which is gained by a
comparison of products and animals
and the friendly rivalry to attain the
highest place.
Tillamook has just experienced one
of the driest seasons in years. How­
ever, crops here do not seem to be
suffering overly much from it.
Prunes ought to be easy to get
this year. Trees in the Willamette
valley prune sections are breaking
down from the overload of fruit.

Bands of wild geese have been
heard flying south at night recently.
The Indians would say that this pre­
sages an early winter.
W. H. Holmes, the well known att­
orney from Portland, was in the city
the later part of the week. He is
now 73 years of age, and for many
years was one nf the leading lawyers
of Marion county, and was an uncle
of Webster Holmes, who died here the
early part of the present year. He
was called here on a legal case.
Miss Fay Boyer of Portland who
was the guest of her friend Mias
Elizabeth Neff at the Netherlands
hotel for a few weeks paat, returned
home last Monday.

After the judging-in the culinary
department at the coming fair, Mrs.
W. J. Hill, superintendent, Mrs. Mc­
Comb of Corvallis, who will do the
judging, is scheduled to deliver a
talk on Cooking, Canning and Bak­
ing. Those interested are invited to
hear this address.
