I. <1 I ’yl < f I < ' » >: : z e 1 I ! * 1 1 A I -i:' >>■ ùtr ' tin id tue t ! ul Grana Leader Broadcasting Public Announcement of a Most Stirring and It has been said that the man who 3iwer makes a mistake never makes anything else—and certainly the cock sure type always does seem to come a cropper sooner or later, remarks a writer In London Answers. If she. or he, has Insisted a good ileal on her, or bls. own perfections, there Is very little sympathy showered on them when they are "out of luck." 4 man who is so strictly honorable and exact that his precision 1s famed tn the whole town has l»een made hon orary treasurer of a big public fund. He finds, perhaps, that his accounts will not balance by £8 odd. He Is so absolutely positive about the correctness of hfs ligures that he 18 unpleasant to the secretary and of tensive to the members of the commit tee when they suggest possibilities of error. When an Independent audit re veals that thé error ts more In the na ture of a foolish mistake—a silly slip that a slxteen-yenr-old clerk ought net to make—the great “I am" goes down like a pricked balloon. It Is not only mere bounce. It Is self-conrtdence that vanishes under the convictton of a first real blunder. Or take the case of the typist who Is loudly contemptuous of every other girl In the office because they make mistakes In spelling and she—well, she doesn't. "There Is no excuse for bad Spell- Ing." she Informs the office at large, "If you have had oven a county coun- ell school education and are not rlilic- ulously careless." Then one day she types a loiter to the chief's most particular client, a learned lord, asking "weather" he could see him that week. The few sarcastic remarks on care lessness made by the chief rankle so deeply that the office atmosphere de velops a purple storm aura from which the angry typist emerges minus her Job. It Is decidedly safer to mnke a little human mistake now ami again tn place of getting upon n pedestal of perfection, which gives one such nasty bruises when the topple-over comes. Perhaps It Is in the long run Just as bad to be too perfect as too full of errors. People do not expect such h wonderful lot from the person who never makes any mistakes. The generals or admirals who have nothing to learn from their staff, the tAacliers or scientists who throw aside all textbooks because they have reached to perfect knowledge, the business men or housewives who ran their affairs as they did five years ago because they are "not given to making mistakes, and their way Is the only right way"—all these people ire liable to get a nasty shock some day. A little study of that Hook, which never gets out of date, wherein n man Is advised to "walk humbly all the days of his life,” might be rather useful. As the old West country wife said to her man: “Thee be a bigger fool nor me, Tom, for I be In the right of It most times, but thee makes out to be right all the time." Dan iel, professor of botany at Hennes, by vhlch the perfume of flowers Is great ly increased has been explained be fore the Academle des Sciences In I’arls. By taking two plants of the ame species and grafting one on the other—notably a wormwood on a '■hrysanthenium—he found not only iat the grafted wormwood developed remarkably, but Its flowers gave forth ii perfume much more powerful than that of the original plant. Moreover, rite chrysanthemum had given to the wormwood flower something of Its ■wn perfume. The professor collected the seeds of the grafted wormwood • nd the following year obtained from them some fine plants. They had this peculiar feature-that while the flow era of some of the plants emitted a j erfume similar to those of the orig inal graft, others were absolutely ithout odor. t YOUR Woolen Dress Goods, A lot of regular stand 36 in. wide, just the a rd dress percale, 36 thing for everyday inches wide, in figur dresses and children’s school dresses in plain ed and striped designs worth 25c—for and mixture—for Values to $2.00 Cultivates Perfumes. ie FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, 1923 Don’t Bo Afraid of Making Mlatakoa; Better by Far to Learn to Profit by Them. 0 ! ..j Absolute Truth in Old Saying, “To Err Is Human.” I I — « I I » -• 1/ IB 11 hi pi O y Si et /
