Wonder whether Tillamook moon
shiners place “Tillamook on the
Rind” on their "wet” goods und whe
ther they have a tester and grader
before it is placed on the market?
Wonder when President Wilson
read the republican platform in te-
gard to league covenants, whether
he called the delegates to the Chic
ago convention, “contemptible quitt
ers.”
The republican party has taken a
wise course in regard to the treaty
of peace and the league covenant. It
is not opposed to a league but it is
opposed to the Wilson one man
league.
------- o-------
There is a shortage of most evcry-
thing, but there won't be any short
age of splendid weather in Tillamook
county this summer, for that is some
thing the profiteers cannot raise the
pr ce on and bring under the high
cost of living.
------- o-------
It is unfortunate for the state, as
well as Tillamook county, that road
improvements are going on at a time
when the cost is twice as much as
it was before pre-war times. No one
can blame the State Highway Com
mission for postponing work which
had been planned, on account of the
money market and the cost of labor
and material.

good one, but somehow there is more
attraction or amusement in the
movie show than in a religious ser
vice on Sunday evenings with a
large number of persons, and why is
it, and who is to blame for that state
of affairs?
■ - o——
Some ot our influential citizen»
are discussing the question of harbor
improvements, and they are in a
quandry to know wliat is the best
course to pursue in obtaining deep
waler to the upper part of Tillamook
bay and as far as Tillamook river.
We have always contended that there
should have been only one port com
mission for the entire water shed of
Tillamook bay. and that it was un
just to tax one portion of the water
sited for the improvement of Tilla
mook bar and exempt the other por
tion. But this was what was done by
creating the Port of Bay City and not
taking in the entire water shed. The
injustice of this is now’ seen, after so
much money was expended on the
bar and lower bay improvements to
stop there and no improvements to
upper part of the bay to be consid
ered. That is a selfish, one-side cul
mination of harbor improvements.
Hiram Johnson had but a small
show of obtaining the nomination,
simply because he did not play fair
four years ago and refused to meet
Hughes when he went to California.
Although Johnson has been able to
roll tip tremendous majorities tor
himself in California, yet he did no
thing to bling success to the Repub '
lican party in that state four years i
ago, which threw its vote to Wilson
and which saved the democratic part v
from defeat. Delegates to the nation
al convention had not forgotten this,
hence the frost that Johnson met
witli when the balloting commenced.
But California wanted the nominat
ion and for state pride, and notwith
standing that about nine California
millioniaires financed Johnson’s cam
paign, he probably would have won
out had Johnson and California giv
en its support to Hughes four years
ago. That’s tlie reason that Califor
nia lost out. It is to be hoped that
Johnson sees the mistake he made
which was the cause of the frost he
met with al Chicago.
