He called on his old school teacher, John Lelanu Henderson, who, then President of the Olympia Collegiate Institute at Olympia, in the early 80’b fitted him for West Point. Col. Fire Chief Coates received a letter this week from A. C. Barber, the State Fire marshal, stating that he was very much pleased with the re-, port of fire losses for the month of May. He also states that, owing to official matters arising that have to be attended to, he will not be able to come over here on the 14th, as was planned, and, as some of the people of Tillamook will be in Port­ land during the week following,- they have decided to postpone their visit for t«o weeks. The men will be back from Eastern Oregon this week and they will plan their work for the two weeks following and advise him de- finitily as to when they can be in Tillamook and as to what meetings can be planned. He was here to deliver the address at the Commcncment excercises at the Christian churcli Friday evening, and said that he enjoyed the trip very much, this being the first time he had ever been in Tillamook, al­ though he had lived in Oregon for thirty-one years. He said that he had been given the trip to Tillamook as a reward for his campaigning for the millage question at the primaries, and he also said that on the 12th of June, the day after the graduating excercises at the O. A. C., the ground was to be broken in prepartion for the addition to the Home Economics building. A large number of the students are to stay on the grounds this summer and work on the build­ ings, thus solving the question of labor shortage. The excercises here in Tillamook made the twentieth that he has already attended this year, and he says that all the classes have been large, and in the rural schools there have been classes pav­ ing all the way from six to a dozen or more members, and that almost all of them are planning on going to college.
