TILLAMOOK HEADLIGHT, MAY 20. 1020 trict No. 2 and Commissioner Farmer TILLAMOOK COUNTY IS PROGRESSING is responsible for District 3. But TMIŸÉ’ Ml V4-^ t-^ .S^V*.- »U-.M m » -i • .vs -y.A-.SEk Why BrunswickTires Win Preference There are two main reasons—one, tfie name itself, flrhich certifies superfine value—the other, that time tells the same story. Thus reputation and performance unite in giving you all you expect—and more. Yet Brunswicks cost no more than like-type tires. Many motorists would pay more readily, but the Brunswick idea is to GIVE the utmost, rather than to GET the utmost. And this has been true since 1845. You can appreciate what Brunswick Standards mean by trying ONE Brunswick Tire. It will be a reve lation. You’ll agree that you could not buy a better, regardless of price. And, like other motorists, you’ll decide to have ALL Brunswicks. Then you’ll know supreme satis faction from your tires — longer life, minimum trouble, lower cost. THE BRUNS WICK-BALKE-COLLEN DER CO. Portland Headquarters: 46-48 Fifth Street ■ ■ -o------- Land of "Cheese and Trees" Rapidly Developing ------ o------ By S. C. Morton in the St. Helen’s Mist. Tillamook county Is a close neigh bor of Columbia. Its interests are indentical with those of Columbia, therefore, I believe a short story as to the development of Tillamook county, the progress that Is being made, industrially, from an agricul tural standpoint and from its road building program, will be of Interest to Columbia county people. I spent the greater portion of last week in Tillamook City and sur rounding country, and came away after having visited a considerable portion of the county, firmly im pressed that Tillamook is a great country and has a great future. I was also much Impressed by the hos pitality of the people, the spirit of cooperation manifested and their ex pressions of confidence in the future of the Tillamook country. Is a Large County. In December, 1853, Tillamook county was formed, being taken from the counties of Yamhill and Clatsop. It derived its name from the Tilla mook Indian nation. In 1918 there were 18,083 acres of tillable land, •129,716 acres of timber land and 139,750 acres of non-tillable land, the total valuation being almost »22, 000,000. Since 1918, the acres of tillable land has increased and the amount of timber land has decreased but only to a small extent, for Tilla mook county has within Its boun daries more than 20 billion feet of choice timber, fir, cedar, hemlock and spruce. It is said by timbermen who know of the vast timber resources of the county, that the output of logs and lumber could be quadrupled and even then, Tillamook county’s forests would still have billions of feet of choice timber left at the end of 25 or 30 years of operation. And so much for the timber wealth of Tilla mook. Greater Than Trees. there is no haggling as to districts, the judge and commissioners evi dently preferring to work fur Tilla mook county as a whole rather than Tillamook county as to districts. The motto of the court is "perma nent roads, well built and properly located” and with this end in view the »187,00Q road fund la being pro perly expended.
