If the Oath of "Good Faith” Means
Anything.

The following letter was received
from C. C. Chapman, editor of the
Oregon Voter:
I was deeply Impressed by your ed
itorial stating, in effect, that a citi
zen has no right alter registering as
a republican to go to the polls and
vote for a democrat for President
and United States Senator.
Supposing, however, that a citizen
as been in the habit of voting for a
Republican for President and repub
lican for United states Senator, and
if he believes in the principle of the
Republican party, especially as con
trasted with the principle of the
Democratic party, has such a citi
zen a right to register as a republi
can and if, after registering as a
republican, he concludes it is his
duty as a citizen, to vote for the d< ni-
i ocrallc candidate for president and a
democratic candidate for
United
States Senator, did he commit per
jury. or did lie do wrong in any
sense of the word at the time he reg
istered as a republican?
Also, supposing a citizen, who for
years has registered as a republican
because of his belief in the principle
of the republican party,, has also on
occasions voted for a democratic can- i
didate for president and a democrat
ic candidate tor United States Sena
tor, is such a citizen doing wrong
in registering as a republican?
Supposing a citizen,
believing in
the principle of the republican party
and intending to vole for the repub
lican nominee for United States Sen
ior. does ills intent in the latter re
gard disqualify him from register
ing as a republican?
Your discussion of the foregoing in
your accustomed lucid style, will be
very much appreciated by hiyself a;
one of the regular and attentive
reader of your "Snap Shot” column.
election in ’.’g< <d faith” and then
knifes his
ticket, is plain proof
that that person is not acting in good
faith or on the square and resort to
disloyal and dishonest methods to
defeat the persons who obtained a
majority vote.
We will now answer Bro. Chap-
man’s questions as briefly as possi
ble:
The citizen who takes an oath and
registers as a republican and believes
in the principles of the republican
party, and then votes for a demo
cratic candidate for president and a
democratic candidate for United
State Senator does commit per
jury if the oath of ellegiunce to the
republican party amounts to any
thing. We think it does. We consider
that democratic candidates for theof-
tlcesof president and U. S. senator ale
political offices, who represent the
principles of the democratic party,
so there is no logic, or good common
sense, in a citizen subscribing to the
principles of the republican party,
"in good faith" and then voting for
democratic candidates opposed to re
publican principles. It ts a most ridi-
culous and untenable position for
any one to take. And it is a rotten
kind of an argument for anyone to
endeavor to reconcile, as well as a
dishonest, disloyal position for uny
citizen to take.
When a citizen joins the I. W. W.
he is immediately classed and cor-
rectiy ho , as a traitor, and we see no
reason why the same moral yard
measure should not be applied to
persons who join the republican
party "in good faith” and then vote
tor Democratic candidates for presi
dent and U. S. Senator. They all look
alike to us, Mr. Chapman.

Political Dishonesty.
Notice to Adverti*ers and Subscribers
Owing to the great increase in the
cost of news print paper our adver
tising rates will be raised on the first
of this month and all : ubscriptions
must be prepaid. News print paper is
now over 10 cents per pound and it
is hard to obtain it at that price,
with the prospect that it will go to
20 cents before long. This is a ser-
lous sluation confronting most news-
paper publishers, especially thos-j
with large circulations. We are using
more news print paper every week
than all rhe other newspapers in the
county put together, so the high cost
of paper is hitting us pretty hard.
That is one leason that advertising
rates will have to be increased and
subscriptions paid for in advance.
We should have advanced our adver
tising rates several months ago to
conform to what is paid other news
papers with large circulations in
other parts of Oregon. The news
print paper does not cut much figure
with newspapers with but a few
hundred circulation, but where they
run into the thousands it eats up
large quantities of paper every week.
We are turning out every week the
best and largst newspaper ever pub
lished in the county, and there is un
increase ot$2uu.uu on 500u pounds of
paper that was delivered to us a few
weeks ago and in the order for
mother 5OU0 pounds last week.

People insist on modern Sanitary methods in
larger cities—That is why we installed a power
equipped Dry Cleaning plant in Tillamook City.
We are sure if every one understood the
modern method of cleaning over the old, more
work would be brought to us.
We have dry cleaning washers, extractor and
dry tumbler to remove the dirt—then they are
finished on a sanitary steam pressing machine
which gives the garment the natural body shape,
raises the nap and puts in lasting creases.
