TILLAMOOK HEADLIGHT, OCTOBER 16. 1919. Better Tires on the Market ¡dltion and inciting secret foes again- ■ st them? We are sorry the prison fare didn't suit Emma—that is, not very sorry,. But we are more grieved about the ' ingredients she has been trying to (serve certain thoughtless ones of this nation.—Chicago Tribune. Details have just been received from Lille of what is considered with out question the greatest "contribu tion’' made to the war by any one single family. The head of this family was M. Vanhoe,a farmer living at Reminghe near Ypres. At the outbreak of the war he was the father df 36 living children, 14 girls and 22 boys. Of the latter in the course of th ' war. 20 fought in the French ranks. Of these 20 13 were killed and three were permanently discharged as the result of wounds unfitting them for further service. Still another was wounded four times during the war. In 1917 the widow of one of the sons, Alfred, also was killed during the bombardment of Dunkerque. She left five orphans. But even before this, M. Vanhee had already given up his life to the Germans. On Octob er of 1914 he had gone to Lille with one of his daughters to celebrate the birthday of’relative. On his return home the two were caught by a Ger man patrol and both shot. No one offered him a seat. Finally he took from his haversack a small bomb. ! "This is one of the things we use out there, you know,” he remarked ,to two or three passengers. "See this pin here? When I pull it out like this it should explode a few* esconds later. If I put it back again the thing is harmless.” Then, beginning to search frantically; Where on earth did I put that pin?” Within one minute the buss was empty, Then, putting the bomb back in his haversack.
