Wanted for Improvement of Three Rivers Road. -------------- Sealed proposals for constructing Under Auspices of K. of P. 425 Sacks or improving the National Forest Were Picked on Sunday. ------ o------- The K. of.P. is entitled to a great deal of credit for its efforts in ar ranging a picnic on Sunday to pick Sphagnum Moss for the American Red Cross. It proved highly success ful in every way, with a total of 42 5 sacks of sphagnum moss filled from the bog which had been picked over several times. Everybody worked with a vim and in 2^ hours the whole of the sacks were filled and had more been on hand the party could have picked over 500 sacks. On Saturday afternoon it was seen that there were less than 300 sacks on hand, and it was founu advisable to procure 150 more, which was done. When the moss gatherers returned to the city Sunday they felt that they had performed a patriotic duty and felt elated at their success, for had the party been placed on a fresh bog it could have picked double the amount of moss, but it was thought best to pick over the old bog again, and have it cleaned up as far as possible before starting on new ground. Following are the names of the patriotic citizens who went with the K. of P. on Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Wanzer, Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Lamb, Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Todd, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Boone, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Stephens, Mr. and Jdrs. W. S. Coates, Thos Coates, Malcom Easton, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Mc Grath, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krake, Mrs. Daugherty, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brown, Mrs. Sidney Johnson, Mrs. C. J. Edwards, R. E. Warren, M. E. Gruber, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Gienger, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Hays, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Clark, J. L. Henderson, C. A. Johnson, D. Edwards, Ralph R. Edwards, L. V. Eberhardt, H. J. Moon, Ed Webb and boys, Tom Buffum, H. B. Millis, Henry and Glenn Woolfe, Miss Heusser, Miss Todd, Mr. Ferguson, Fred Rohrback, M. V. Stillwell, E. W. Stanley, Clifford Drake and Will Coburn. B. C. Lamb, president of the First National Bank, had his first intro duction to the moss banks and he put in several strenuous hours getting it out. Ralph Warren prides himself on having filled 87 of the 425 sacks. Attorney J. L. Henderson packed out 48 sacks, the number of years he has been in Oregon. It is now up to Attorneys Handley, Winslow and Holmes, who have not been initiated into the moss gathering mysteries to beat Attorney Henderson's record. Roland Heusser hauled out a load of the moss on Sunday. The name of Preston Williams was omitted from the list of the previous Sunday. Important! The right is reserv ed to reject any and all bids, and none will be considered except those from contractors ascertained to be experienced and responsible. TO MOTOR TRUCK OPERATORS. Machinery Installed in Tillamook for Application of Pressed-On Tires. ■ - -o Of Interest to Motor Truck Owners of this vicinity will be the news that, there is now in this city a Hydraulic Tire Forcing Press for the installa tion of solid truck tires. This type and size press has been used exten sively on the Pacific CoaBt, and is capable of applying all sizes of truck, tires now manufactured. The advantage of the pressed-on. type of tire over the demountable or removable is generally recognized, and almost too numerous to mei.uon here. However, it will be readily ap preciated that the application of lae Pressed-On tires means that the wheel is one unit from the hub out to the tread of the tire, as the tire seats firmly and evenly on the wheel felloe, and eliminates the heavy wedge rings, flanges, bolts, etc. It has been proved that the Pressed-On type of tire gives greater service than any other. It is possible to oversize the tires without building out the felleys, which, heretofore had to be sent to Portland at considerable expense and loss of time. The Tillamook Garage, who have installed this machinery intend to put forth every effort to give service of the highest class to truck operat ors, and it Is generally conceded that these people should be given full support of truckowners, as it will be readily appreciated, that machinery of this size is no small Investment. When Interviewed, Mr. Ackley and Mr. Miller stated they gave consid erable thought to the choice of a truck tire, ajid decided on the Good rich Tire, as this gave them the well known DeLux Tires, which are being built exclusively by the Goodrich Co. for extra heavy duty, and which, by actual records deliver double to trip le the mileage usually obtained. One trouble the moss gathering committee met with, and which is impeding the production of moss, is the need of more autos on Sundays to take people to Sandlake to gather masB. There is an urgent demand for moss. There is an urgent demand for abundance, and there are willing people who are anxious to gather the moss, but there is a lack of convey ance.
