Fourth of July Speakers.
Mr. Frank Sutherland, who served
two years in the trenches on the
French front with the 143rd Canadian
Infantry Bantams, and was severely
wounded in action, will tell of his ex
periences.
He has been back in this country
only three months, comes recom
mended as an excellent speaker and
has some stirring experiences to re
late.
Judge Stapleton, of Portland will
also deliver an address. Be at the
Court House immediately after the
parade and hear these men.
Feed a Soldier on the Fourth.
The soldiers of the Spruce Division
located in the county, have been in
vited to our July Fourth celebration.
These boys are away from home and
we wish to get acquainted with them
and make them feel at home. A bas
ket lunch has been planned immediat
ely following the speaking program
and every one is requested to put in
enough extra lunch for a soldier, or
two. Invite them to eat with you and
get acquainted. Your boy at some
other camp would appreciate a like

Still Remembers Tillamook.
Eleven years ago, a French gentle
man, Monsieur Le Vicompt de Peu-
feulhoux, visited Tillamook in quest
of health, and became very much at
tracted towards the Tillamook count
ry. He purchased a block of land in
the city, lying between Third and
Fourth streets, and west of Miller
Ave, which he still owns. The Vis
count always declared that someday
he would erect a large hotel on this
property. By advice of his physician
he left the Tillamook country after a
brief stay, for Switzerland, where he
now live*.
Attorney S. S. Johnson has just re
ceived a letter from the Viscount in
which he says: “1 am sending you
$20.00 for the benefit of the wounded
soldiers in Tillamook. No doubt your
valiant young men bring a lot of
glory to the Star Spangled Banner.
May Got protect them and bring
them home again.”
This is a subscription to a fund for
which so far has been no necessity,
but the time is not far off when some
soldiers from Tillamook will return
wounded, and then the fund initiated
by the Viscount might be of import
ance. Mr. Johnson would like to have
suggestions from citizens who would
be interested, in the premises. Mean
time, the Viscount’s donation will be
held, and, in any event, will eventual
ly be expended, in accordance with
his intention.
We might suggest that the donation
of $20.00 be turned over to the local
Red Cross to be used for civilian re
lief, for one of the condition* that
part of the money is returned is for
civilian help, of realtive* or soldiers
who may return sick or wounded and
needed help in their respective local
ities.
