Marat han Lodge Elects Officers
On Monday evening at the regular
convention of Marathan Lodge No.
89, K. of P., the following officers
were elected for the ensuing term;
Floyd Erickson, C. C.; Fred Kobitsch
V. C.; A. H. Gaylord, Prelate; John
Ebinger, M. at Arms; E. W. Stanley,
K. of R.; Albert Plank, M. of finance;
C. A. Johnson, M. of E.; J. A. Rich
ardson, Trustee; Albert Schlappi
inner Guard; H. Norberg, Outer
Guard. After the usual business the
members were entertained with some
good talks on the good of the order.
Marathan lodge has made a record
in the past, and under the leadership
of Mr. Erickson, and his able body of
lieutenants he expects to make the
Marathan lodge the shining light of
Tillamook, a lodge where all its mem
bers are welcome, and Mr. Erickson
expects the co-operation of every
member of the lodge.
At the next regular convention
there is some very important business
to be discussed, and it will pay every
ofie that has the interest of the lodge
at heart to be present.
Cloverdale Hospital.
At a mass meeting on December 4,
the citizens of the south end of the
county raised part of the necessary
funds and the balance of money was
assured to provide and equip this
much needed institution for that end
of the county.
Dr. Shearer was unanimously elect
ed to have full charge, and it will be
run under his personal supervision.
The doctor was with us for most
two years, but owing to his large
surgical practice, he was compelled to
move his offices to Tillamook, where
he could have hospital facilities
which left the people here without a
doctor, but after considerable pursua-
sion on our part we have succeeded in
getting doctor Shearer’s consent to
return here, which he very gladly
consented when the good people, and
the doctor's numerous friends, insist
ed that they would provide a modern
institution that he could care for bis
large surgical and medical practice.
We arc very fortunate, indeed, in be
ing able to get Dr. Shearer to return
to Cloverdale, as he is wide awake
and keeps abreast with the advance-
ment of his profession, He not only
has a county reputation as a surgeon
of ability, but the State of Oregon as
well, which assures success, of our
modern hospital. We extend an invi
tation to everyone to come and look
it over, to feel at home and be at
home.

In the matter of a levy for fire
patrol for the year 1916, it was or
dered that the County Assessor be
ordered and instructed to extend up-
on the assessment rolls a levy of 1/z
cents per acre upon all the lands as
described in the petition for the pur
pose of defraying the expenses of fire
patrol for such timber lands, as pro
vided in chapter 247 of the laws of
Oregon, for the year 1913.
The Ministeral Association of Tilla
mook City took the initiative in creat
ing a “Christmas Spirit”, and with
that object in view it was decided to
have a large Christmas tree brilliant
ly lighted on the street and a pro
gram of Christmas carols the Satur
day night previous to Christmas.
A meeting of the different commit
tees was held on Tuesday evening at
the Commercial Club rooms, when
final arrangements were made.
The pupils of the public school and
Sunday Schools will sing Christmas
carols and assist in the program.
Several towns are making arrange
ments for events of this character,
and it was thought advisable to have
one in this city so as to create a
Christmas Spirit.
